Summary

Informated Software Solutions, based in Rockville, Maryland, has proudly supported the Smithsonian Institution for over 20 years. We are seeking a senior contractor to support Smithsonian digital products, including MySmithsonian (MySI, https://my.si.edu/) and the Online Audience Portal (OAP).

MySI is a public-facing digital experience built on Next.js (hosted on Vercel) with Payload headless CMS, Supabase/Postgres data services, and Salesforce integrations. OAP is built on Salesforce Experience Cloud. Both products use Salesforce headless identity for authentication and integrate with Salesforce CRM and Marketing Cloud.

This is a full-time, remote, U.S.-based 1099 contract role expected to run 12+ months. Work must be performed within the United States during U.S. business hours, with availability for scheduled Smithsonian team meetings.

No visa sponsorship, including H-1B transfer, is available for this position.

Role Description

  • We are seeking a senior professional with extensive, dedicated experience in web development (principally front-end) using Next.js, React, and a headless CMS, integrated through Salesforce APIs with Salesforce CRM and Marketing Cloud.
  • The selected candidate will provide web development, API integrations, authentication improvements, and workflow enhancements across the public-facing MySmithsonian and Online Audience Portal products.
  • You will work collaboratively via a prioritized Jira backlog in sprint cycles to implement enhancements while adhering to platform standards, accessibility requirements, and enterprise integration constraints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain public-facing MySmithsonian features using Next.js, React, and modern front-end practices.
  • Implement UI enhancements, bug fixes, accessibility improvements, and performance optimizations.
  • Configure and extend Payload CMS workflows and content-driven editorial features (draft/review/publish).
  • Integrate MySI and related products with Salesforce CRM and Marketing Cloud through APIs, including consent/preference and subscription flows.
  • Troubleshoot and improve Salesforce headless identity flows, including registration, login, verification, session handling, logout, and cross-property user experience between MySI and OAP.
  • Implement error handling, logging, and correlation details for authentication and API failures, sufficient to support reporting on registration/login failures.
  • Support Salesforce Experience Cloud (OAP) enhancements, including content updates, UI, navigation, UAT fixes, and workflow improvements.
  • Work with Supabase/Postgres data models and CMS-to-application integration patterns.
  • Participate in Jira sprint delivery, GitHub workflows, CI/CD deployment support, technical documentation, and weekly status reporting.
  • Follow Smithsonian WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements.

Required Skills

  • 5+ extensive years of professional experience with React, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and modern web application development.
  • 3+ extensive years building production applications with Next.js.
  • Headless CMS experience required; Payload CMS strongly preferred.
  • 3+ extensive experience integrating web applications with Salesforce web APIs.
  • Experience with web authentication/session flows and identity integrations; familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, or Salesforce headless identity patterns is a plus.
  • Demonstrated capability in WCAG 2.1 AA implementation.
  • Experience with GitHub, CI/CD, Jira, sprint delivery, and technical documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with a prioritized backlog.

Preferred Skills

  • Salesforce Experience Cloud experience.
  • Salesforce OmniStudio experience.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud integration experience.
  • Supabase/Postgres familiarity.
  • Experience with Vercel-hosted Next.js applications.
  • Experience integrating third-party data feeds and internal repository APIs (e.g., event listing or collections/exhibitions data services).
  • Experience with analytics instrumentation.
  • Salesforce Platform Developer I or II, OmniStudio Developer, or Experience Cloud Consultant certification.
  • Experience working in enterprise, public-sector, nonprofit, museum, education, or government-adjacent environments.

Work Authorization and Eligibility

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Visa sponsorship, including H-1B transfer or future sponsorship, is not available for this position.
  • All work must be performed within the United States.
  • The selected candidate must be able to successfully complete a Smithsonian background/suitability check prior to receiving system access. The engagement is contingent on passing this check.
