Job Description:

Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) is currently accepting applications to meet an upcoming demand for Aerospace Structural Engineers to support the Structural and Thermal Systems Branch (STSB) at NASA Langley Research Center. These positions are expected to be onsite in Hampton, VA.

Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in Structural, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Demonstrated use of Patran, FEMAP, or similar software, solve using NX or MSC Nastran, document the analysis, present/report findings, guide design and manufacturing, and verify results using testing. Models may vary from Ground Support Equipment (GSE) or test fixturing to electronic boxes, flight science instruments, flight vehicles or satellites.

  • Analysts are required to be able to solve a variety of solutions, including but not limited to static analysis (with or without thermal loads), normal modes, random vibration, buckling, and nonlinear static analyses.

  • Demonstrated experience documenting reports, and technical memos in both Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and presenting findings to internal NASA groups, designers, project leadership, and customers at project meetings, branch meetings, and design reviews as requested by project managers.

  • Experience with Python programming or similar.

  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of tools.

  • US citizenship is required or Permanent Residence.

Desired Experience:
  • Experience in performing Structural, Thermal and Optical Performance (STOP) analysis

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and/or MBSE Multidisciplinary Design Analysis and Optimization (MDAO) or optimization and/or sensitivity studies scripting models together for system-based analyses.

  • Models are often made from scratch or by using CAD geometry as a framework, a Working knowledge of PTC/CREO software is also highly desired.

  • Knowledge of advanced structural techniques such as nonlinear material behavior, fatigue, fracture, or optimization will also be considered.

  • The ability to use other software to solve structural problems and programming capability.

U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residence will be required.
