Job description

Origin Mining Company operates the Mineral Park copper-molybdenum mine in Arizona and is focused on responsible, sustainable resource development. We aim to lead the U.S. copper industry through strong safety practices, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence. Our team is committed to doing things the right way—acting with integrity, supporting our communities, and creating long-term value. With a hands-on, technically driven approach, we are advancing both leach and concentrator operations to produce high-quality copper and molybdenum products.
Position Overview:
Collect, compile, interpret, report, and archive data.  Analyse geologic and analytical data to assign mine material routing. Use modelling software to identify mineralized areas and report material types by destination. Execute QAQC program for data collection including blast hole assays. Review assay lab procedures and methods. Liaise with contract miner and engineering team. Assist engineering team with slope stability monitoring and assessments. Oversee and assist with blast hole sample preparation and organization. Oversee sample preparation technicians.
Responsibilities:
  • Must demonstrate the ability to perform all aspects of daily tasks and assignments in a safe and professional manner.
  • Must be familiar with the use and administration of 30CFR (MSHA Code of Federal regulations) as it pertains to daily tasks.
  • Compile assay information and determine average grades of ore blocks, report, and reconcile ore control data.
  • Design and execute assay QAQC programs. Upload data for incorporation into mine plan and survey files.
  • Effectively manage subordinate technicians.
  • Engage mining equipment operators and supervisors on material routing decisions.
  • Pit mapping: identify and document significant features of blast holes and pit walls.
  • Other duties which may be deemed necessary by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s in Geology or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience at an operating open pit copper mine required.
  • Excellent safety record required.
  • Knowledge of porphyry copper deposits.
  • Ability to readily identify copper/moly minerals and log blasthole chips.
  • Strong knowledge of Vulcan or MineSight software, AutoCAD, Trimble Business Centre (TBC), and MS Office products. Knowledge of sampling theory.
  • Strong understanding of assay methods, procedures, and sample flow though the assay process.
  • Surveying and assay sample preparation experience a plus.
  • Geotechnical and/or database (acQuire or Datashed) experience a plus.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills; self-motivated, team oriented.
  • First Responder or EMT certification would be a plus.
  • Possess or be able to obtain an FAA Drone License.
Physical Demands:
To be eligible for this position, an individual must possess the following requirements to perform the essential job functions:

  • Able to operate a telephone and mine phone/radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation for the purpose of communicating information.
  • Able to hear sufficiently to distinguish various pitches of warning alarms.
