Jobs in evolutionary biology include research positions, academic roles, and conservation work, often requiring a Ph.D. or advanced degree. Contract metagenomics roles may involve studying microbial evolution, which overlaps with evolutionary biology concepts, but traditional evolutionary biology jobs focus on organismal evolution, genetics, and phylogenetics. Skills in bioinformatics, laboratory techniques, and data analysis are commonly needed in these fields.

What jobs can you get with a genomics degree?

A genomics degree can lead to roles such as contract metagenomics specialist, research scientist, bioinformatics analyst, or laboratory technician. These jobs often involve analyzing genetic data, using tools like sequencing platforms and bioinformatics software, and may require knowledge of molecular biology and data analysis skills.

What is the difference between Contract Metagenomics vs Contract Microbiologist?

AspectContract MetagenomicsContract Microbiologist
Required CredentialsAdvanced degrees in genomics, bioinformatics, or related fieldsBachelor's or Master's in Microbiology or related fields
Work EnvironmentLaboratories, research institutions, biotech companiesLaboratories, healthcare, environmental agencies
Industry UsageGenomics, microbiome research, environmental studiesClinical, environmental, industrial microbiology

Contract Metagenomics focuses on analyzing genetic material from environmental samples using sequencing and bioinformatics, while Contract Microbiologist involves traditional microbiological testing and analysis. Both roles require relevant scientific credentials and often work in laboratory settings, but they differ in technical focus and application areas.

What jobs can I get with a biological scientist?

A biological scientist can pursue roles such as research scientist, laboratory technician, or environmental consultant, often working in labs, research institutions, or government agencies.
