Job description

This position will develop the skills needed for the cleaning and preparation of coaches for paint applications, primers and top coatings, operate the equipment needed (sanders, grinders, buffers, paper machines, etc.) to produce the highest quality paint finishes on New Flyer of America products.
INTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLY
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Follow all safety guidelines and practices and always wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Prepare vehicles and parts for painting using proper techniques, equipment and materials
  • Develop knowledge and skill to prepare different surfaces for priming and painting
  • Develop knowledge of equipment and the skill to use it for surface preparation
  • Become acquainted with materials needed and the skill to use for surface preparation
  • Prep and mask vehicles to protect from overspray
  • Work closely with Painters to develop a complete understanding of quality paint standards to help ensure that the paint finishes produced by the paint department are of the highest quality possible
  • Develop knowledge and skill to perform touch-up painted surfaces along with buffing paint finishes
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work environment

Physical Activity/Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of standing and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Must be able to climb up and down ladders.
  • Must have manual dexterity in order to perform essential functions.
  • Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • Must be able to wear ½ or full-face respirator up to eight (8) hours per day.
