Job description

Salary Range:
$80,000.00 To $110,000.00 Annually
Title: Digital Systems Engineer (MBSE & Integration) Location: Huntsville, AL Clearance Required: Secret Employment Type: Full Time – 1 Year Contract Overview
We are seeking a Lead Digital Systems Engineer with deep expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital engineering integration. This individual will serve as the technical leader responsible for establishing the digital engineering environment; ensuring traceability across requirements, architecture, software, and test activities; and integrating multiple subsystems into a cohesive flight system. This role emphasizes leadership, oversight, and technical direction rather than day-to-day execution. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of MBSE and digital engineering practices across the program lifecycle.
- Serve as the authority for the digital thread, ensuring the system model is the authoritative source of truth.
- Guide the creation of the Software Development Plan (SDP), Software Requirements Document (SRD), and related deliverables, delegating detailed authorship to subsystem leads.
- Oversee the definition of system/software/firmware architecture within the MBSE environment, ensuring compliance with Government Reference Architecture, MOSA, and open standards.
- Ensure requirements traceability across architecture, design, code, and test artifacts.
- Conduct and lead In-Process Reviews (IPRs) using digital models every two months.
- Collaborate with subsystem leads for missile, launcher, and prototype integration activities, including Underwater Launch Testing (FY28).
- Maintain oversight of integrated system performance models to evaluate trade-offs and system effectiveness.
- Promote affordability, producibility, and manufacturability considerations throughout the system lifecycle.
- Provide technical leadership to ensure risk management, configuration management, and quality assurance are aligned with program goals. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in systems engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in systems engineering, digital engineering, or MBSE within aerospace or defense programs.
- Proven experience leading system integration efforts involving multiple subsystems.
- Extensive knowledge of MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo/MagicDraw, IBM DOORS, MATLAB/Simulink, Ansys ModelCenter).
- Familiarity with DoD standards such as DI-IPSC, DI-PSSS, DI-SESS, and compliance frameworks like DO-178C.
- Demonstrated expertise with Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) and open interface standards (FACE, SOSA, OMS).
- Active DoD security clearance (or ability to obtain). Desired Skills
- Strong leadership and team collaboration skills with experience directing multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Proficiency in configuration/data management tools (e.g., PTC Windchill, Teamcenter).
- Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing environments and digital thread integration.
- Ability to balance technical rigor with affordability and schedule pressures in a government contracting environment.
- Excellent communication skills for interfacing with government stakeholders and subcontractors.
