Senior Lead Software Engineer - Machine Learning Center of Excellence Job Description

Be an integral part of an agile team that's constantly pushing the envelope to enhance, build, and deliver top‑notch technology product.

The Machine Learning Center of Excellence (MLCOE) team partners across the firm to create and share Machine Learning Solutions for our most challenging business problems. In this role you will work and collaborate with a team comprised of a multi‑disciplinary community of experts focused exclusively on Machine Learning. On this team you will work with cutting‑edge techniques in disciplines such as Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning.

As a Senior Lead Software Engineer at JPMorgan Chase within the Corporate Machine Learning Center of Excellence (MLCOE), you are an integral part of an agile team that works to enhance, build, and deliver trusted market‑leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. In this role you will drive significant business impact through your capabilities and contributions and apply deep technical expertise and problem‑solving methodologies to tackle a diverse array of challenges that span multiple technologies and applications.

Job Responsibilities
  • Design, build, develop and deploy large scale, highly performant batch and real time services that solve business critical problems.
  • Regularly provides technical guidance and direction to support the business and its technical teams, contractors, and vendors.
  • Develops secure and high‑quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others.
  • Drives decisions that influence the product design, application functionality, and technical operations and processes.
  • Serves as a function‑wide subject matter expert in one or more areas of focus.
  • Actively contributes to the engineering community as an advocate of firmwide frameworks, tools, and practices of the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Influences peers and project decision‑makers to consider the use and application of leading‑edge technologies.
  • Adds to the team culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with at least one programming language – Python, Java, C++.
  • Infrastructure Deployments – Terraform.
  • Run Environments – Airflow, EKS, Lambda, ECS.
  • Object‑Oriented style – Gang of Four design patterns; type of hierarchies (avoid circular dependencies).
  • Mocking – Mockito framework.
  • SDLC – strong build, test, deploy, operate experience e.g., deploy and operate what you build.
  • Alerting/Monitoring – AWS Cloud Watch; Datadog.
  • Telemetry/Reporting – Splunk, Elasticsearch.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
  • Experience working on team‑wide common code frameworks.
