Job description

Senior Machine Learning Expert (AI Training)
About the Role
What if your deep understanding of machine learning could directly shape how the world's most advanced AI systems reason, plan, and make decisions?
We're looking for Senior Machine Learning Experts to help build the training data that teaches LLMs how to think - step by step, task by task. You'll author high-fidelity reasoning traces that capture how an intelligent system should plan, use tools, and reach reliable conclusions when faced with complex, real-world problems.
This is frontier-level work. The data you create today will influence how AI models reason tomorrow.
  • Organization
    : Alignerr
  • Type
    : Hourly Contract
  • Location
    : Remote
  • Commitment
    : 10-40 hours/week
What You'll Do
  • Author complex, high-fidelity reasoning traces for sophisticated ML and technical tasks - showing step-by-step planning, tool use, and decision-making
  • Decompose difficult real-world problems into clear, logical, well-documented solution paths
  • Design and document data strategies that help LLMs navigate intricate reasoning scenarios reliably
  • Review and quality-check structured traces to ensure they meet rigorous planning and accuracy standards
  • Apply senior-level architectural insight to produce training data that meaningfully improves model behavior
  • Work independently and asynchronously - fully on your own schedule
Who You Are
  • Deep expertise in Machine Learning, AI research, or a closely related technical field
  • Strong ability to break down complex problems into clear, structured, logical steps - and document that process with precision
  • Solid understanding of LLM behavior, evaluation methodologies, and model training workflows
  • Naturally detail-oriented with a rigorous, systematic approach to technical problem-solving
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal oversight
Nice to Have
  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assurance, or AI evaluation pipelines
  • Top-tier Kaggle competition results (Grandmaster or Master level) - demonstrating advanced model performance intuition and feature engineering depth
  • Background in AI safety, RLHF, or reasoning-focused model research
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing technical work produced by others
Why Join Us
  • Work directly on cutting-edge AI projects alongside the world's leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible - work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the substance of genuinely meaningful, high-impact work
  • Get rare, behind-the-scenes exposure to how frontier LLMs are trained and evaluated
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
