We focus on providing delivery, staffing, and supported services such as enterprise integration/implementations including, but not limited to, CRM, EAM, ERP, PMO, and QA. We service clients in SLED (state/local gov't & education), financial services, fortune, public utility, as well as regularly partnering with Big 4 SI partners.

Job Title: Senior Software Engineer – Low Latency

Location: Chicago, IL (Primary) / New York, NY

Work Schedule: Hybrid – 2 days onsite per week

Duration: 6-Month Contract

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Low Latency to engineer secure, scalable, and reliable technology solutions that support critical business operations and risk management initiatives. This role requires minimal supervision and focuses on building high-performance, low-latency systems while driving architecture efficiency, code optimization, and system reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop secure, scalable, and reliable technology solutions.
  • Focus on architecture and solution efficiencies while balancing performance, capacity, reliability, and core system functionality.
  • Identify opportunities for code optimization and performance improvements.
  • Participate in code reviews and assist with environment builds, deployments, release notes, and build notices.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate code defects and troubleshoot application issues.
  • Develop optimized application modules and unit tests with minimal guidance.
  • Interpret low-level designs and integrate them into larger application architectures.
  • Communicate and share design ideas using system design tools.
  • Utilize low-level diagnostic tools such as packet captures and hardware performance counters.
  • Tune applications and systems for high throughput and low latency using modern multi-processor architecture concepts.
  • Apply software design patterns and contribute to engineering best practices and process improvements.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong understanding of algorithm analysis and data structure selection based on performance constraints.
  • Expertise in:
  • Multithreading
  • Concurrent data structures
  • Shared memory
  • Asynchronous programming
  • JNI (Java Native Interface)
  • Java NIO
  • HashMap and related collections
  • Strong understanding of queue theory and queue implementation strategies.
  • Experience with networking protocols including TCP and UDP.
  • Knowledge of redundancy and fault-tolerance techniques.
  • Strong understanding of JVM internals and garbage collection tuning.
  • Advanced knowledge of Linux OS and Linux kernel internals.
  • Experience tuning applications for high-performance, low-latency environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EF_VI, JNI, and Solarflare Onload Extension APIs.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Thread pinning
  • Interrupt handling
  • Core isolation
  • Jitter reduction techniques
  • NUMA architecture
  • TLB caches
  • Experience working in ultra-low latency or high-frequency transaction processing environments.
