What is a contract law firm demand writer?

A Contract Law Firm Demand Writer is a legal professional responsible for drafting demand letters on behalf of a law firm, usually within the context of contract disputes. These letters formally request a resolution, such as payment or performance, from the opposing party before legal action is taken. The Demand Writer must clearly articulate the facts of the case, reference relevant laws or contractual provisions, and specify the desired outcome. This role requires strong legal writing skills, attention to detail, and an understanding of contract law. Demand writers play a key part in attempting to resolve disputes efficiently and often help prevent the need for litigation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract law firm demand writer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Law Firm Demand Writer, you need expertise in legal research, contract law, and persuasive writing, typically supported by a law degree or paralegal certification. Familiarity with legal research databases (such as Westlaw or LexisNexis), document management systems, and standard word processing tools is essential. Strong attention to detail, organization, and effective communication skills will set you apart in drafting compelling and accurate demand letters. These abilities are crucial for producing well-structured documents that protect clients’ interests and facilitate successful negotiations.

What are some common challenges faced by a contract law firm demand writer, and how can they be managed?

One common challenge for Contract Law Firm Demand Writers is crafting persuasive and comprehensive demand letters that clearly present the client's position while anticipating potential counterarguments. Balancing thorough legal research with concise communication is essential, as is staying organized to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously. Collaboration with attorneys and clients is frequent, so strong interpersonal and communication skills help ensure that all factual and legal bases are covered. Proactively managing time and maintaining a system for tracking case progress can help mitigate these challenges and lead to more successful outcomes.

Job description

Demand Writer - Pathway Law Firm (Beverly Hills, CA)

Pathway Law Firm is a high-volume plaintiff personal injury firm handling auto, rideshare, pedestrian, motorcycle, catastrophic injury, and wrongful death cases across California, Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona. We're hiring a Demand Writer for our Demands & Settlements team.

You'll write demand letters, using AI drafting tools to speed up the mechanical work: pulling specials, structuring the medical timeline, generating a first pass to build from. The writing, the judgment, and the final product are yours. You decide how the damages get framed, how the medical record gets told as a narrative, and whether the AI's output actually holds up before it goes anywhere near an adjuster. This is a production role: we measure output daily, and speed matters, but not at the cost of accuracy.

What you'll do:
  • Write and dispatch demand letters against daily production targets (~8/day), using AI tools to accelerate drafting
  • Pull from medical records, billing, and liability documentation to build the damages narrative yourself, correcting or rewriting anything the AI gets wrong or leaves out
  • Assess each case's treatment profile (conservative care, injections, surgical recommendation) and frame damages accordingly
  • Apply the correct demand template and legal rules by state, CA, TX, CO, NM, and AZ each differ on damages and UM/UIM treatment
  • Route drafts for attorney approval and confirm carrier receipt after dispatch
  • Handle demand-related client and adjuster calls, and follow up on demands nearing expiration
  • Flag missing records or documentation gaps to the case manager before they stall a file
What we're looking for:
  • Prior experience drafting personal injury demand letters, or comparable experience as a PI paralegal, litigation assistant, or legal writer
  • Comfortable using AI tools to draft faster, without letting the tool make the calls that should be yours
  • Strong writing and the ability to translate a medical record into a damages narrative that holds up to adjuster scrutiny
  • Ability to sustain a high-volume, deadline-driven pace without letting accuracy slip
  • Working knowledge of California personal injury law; exposure to TX, CO, NM, or AZ is a plus
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
