Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level DNA Sequencing Technician to join our production laboratory team. This role supports both Sanger sequencing and Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) sequencing workflows in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment. The technician will be responsible for processing DNA samples, preparing sequencing reactions and libraries, operating laboratory instrumentation, maintaining accurate records, and supporting quality and turnaround time goals.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong scientific foundation who enjoys hands-on laboratory work, organization, and working as part of a team to deliver high-quality sequencing services.

Work Schedule

This position follows a Tuesday through Saturday schedule from 2:00 AM to 10:30 AM. Candidates must be able to reliably work this early-morning shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize, sort, prioritize, and process incoming DNA samples according to daily production needs.
  • Perform DNA extraction, purification, and preparation for sequencing workflows.
  • Pipette DNA sequencing reactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Prepare sequencing libraries using Oxford Nanopore protocols while ensuring quality and consistency.
  • Perform DNA purification and related sample preparation steps for Sanger and ONT workflows.
  • Load, operate, schedule, and monitor sequencing instruments, including ABI 3730xl sequencers and Oxford Nanopore sequencers.
  • Operate routine laboratory equipment such as thermocyclers, centrifuges, automated liquid handlers, and related instrumentation.
  • Assist with troubleshooting sequencing runs, workflow issues, and instrument-related concerns to support quality and throughput targets.
  • Maintain accurate production records, batch documentation, logs, and other required quality records in compliance with laboratory standards.
  • Follow work instructions, checklists, batch records, and other controlled documents relevant to assigned responsibilities.
  • Support quality control activities, including review of sequencing performance and basic data quality checks.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, team leads, and cross-functional partners to meet turnaround time and production goals.
  • Perform other laboratory support duties as assigned by the Lab Team Lead or Supervisor.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Chemistry, or another related scientific field; or equivalent directly related experience.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to learn new laboratory techniques and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR, nucleic acid quantification, DNA extraction, and purification.
  • Experience with DNA sequencing workflows, including Sanger sequencing and/or Oxford Nanopore Technologies.
  • Experience operating ABI 3730xl instruments is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with automated liquid handlers and standard laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience working in an ISO-9000, cGMP, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Exposure to basic bioinformatics or sequencing quality control tools is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to maintain efficiency and accuracy under production deadlines.
  • Good scientific judgment and problem-solving ability.
  • Positive attitude, adaptability, and willingness to support team success.
  • Ability to troubleshoot routine technical issues and escalate appropriately.
  • Commitment to maintaining safety, compliance, and data integrity in all tasks.
