Role description:

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Inspector, with 20+ years of experience, to join our Water Division as part of our construction management team for our NYC DEP BWT on call Job Order Construction Management Contract located in Brooklyn, NY.

The Electrical Inspector will utilize their knowledge of electrical codes and prior experience in in construction inspection, QA/QC and report documentation, on various construction and/or reconstruction projects for municipal water and wastewater treatment plant, infrastructure or other heavy construction projects.

The inspector will report to the Resident Engineer and Assistant Resident Engineer and will perform daily construction electrical inspections, coordination, testing oversight, commission and verification of Contract Document compliance on various electrical upgrade and replacement projects. Will also conduct inspection of instrumentation and controls, communications and security systems on an as needed basis.

Role accountabilities:

In this role you will be expected to perform inspection of electrical installations, including detailed inspections of electrical demolition, drive motor installation, control panels, MCC buckets and conduit and wire systems ensuring conformance to Contract Documents. You will also need to ensure all materials associated with electrical installations are in accordance with approved submittals and product data to ensure compliance with appropriate codes and specifications. Your expertise will be needed to advise the Resident Engineer/Assistant Resident Engineer and Contractor of conditions requiring correction. Contractor communication will be key and you will monitor and document contractor resource utilization (labor, materials and equipment) for field changes, and time and material work and assist with negotiation of basic field construction changes. 

As a senior member of our team you will need to attend a variety of construction meetings to administer the contract requirements; provide input and assist in interpreting specifications, drawings and other technical details. You will be expected to work closely with the project's electrical engineering design staff ensuring quality electrical installations and communicate all pertinent information to the construction and design project managers. 

Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect and determining deviations from general compliance with Contract Documents. 
  • Monitor all required field testing. 
  • Document instances of material and/or installation non-compliance when necessary. 
  • Coordinate contractor activities with other prime contractors and owner's activities. 
  • Verify equipment and materials installation for payment purposes. 
  • Maintain Payment Quantity documentation. 
  • Perform mathematical calculations as necessary during inspection activities. 
  • Prepare detailed daily activity and progress reports

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 15-20 years' experience in the construction industry specializing in electrical installations, engineering or inspection.
  • Prior experience as an Inspector for NYC DEP projects.
  • Prior experience with Electrical Construction oversight and/or electrical maintenance work.
  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field of study or a HS Diploma along with Continuing Education  Diploma or Certification in Electrical Construction related area.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of National Electric Code, NFPA 70E Electrical Safey in the Workplace, electrical inspection practices and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 20+ years' experience working in the electrical field on NYCDEP work.
  • Strong relationships with NYCDEP personnel.
  • Ideal candidate would possess a NY State Journeyman Electrician License.
