Job Title: Oncology Infusion Registered Nurse (RN)
Unit: Outpatient Infusion
Shift: 0700-1730, 0730-1800, 0800-1830 and weekends

The Oncology Infusion/PICC Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) who partners with and advocates for patients/families/significant others to provide physical, emotional and spiritual support which impacts patient outcomes in a safe environment. The RN functions in a versatile role that demonstrates professionalism and promotes excellence and autonomy in the practice of Nursing. The RN utilizes the nursing process in conjunction with evidence-based principles to care for a diverse caseload of patients within the department scope of service. The RN serves as guide, healer, collaborator, teacher, leader and sentry. The RN collaborates with and guides care delivered by the inter-professional team. The RN is accountable for compliance with the Ohio Nurse Practice Act, Nursing Code of Ethics and applicable regulatory standards.
As an Oncology Infusion/PICC Nurse, the oncology nurse collaborates with other cancer care team members to assess and respond to the full impact cancer has on the patient and family, including the physical symptoms, functional limitations, psychosocial disruptions, and knowledge needs associated with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Oncology nursing is patient-centered and may encompass individuals, families, groups, and communities. The oncology nurse is accountable for delivering care within the framework of the nursing process. The scope of oncology nursing practice will include health promotion and disease prevention strategies, treatment and related physical care of disease management, psychosocial support, and education for active participation in decision-making. The oncology nurse actively participates in professional role development activities, including quality assessment and improvement, practice evaluation, professional education, collegiality, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the review and clinical application of research findings. Integrates the Collaborative Model of Care with a strong focus on patient-centered care into daily practice. Provides care for patients across the life span in a manner sensitive to social, cultural diversity. Demonstrates competency in all aspects of chemotherapy administration, immunotherapy administration, IV therapy, subcutaneous and intramuscular injection administration. Knowledgeable
and practices within the ONS guidelines during any adverse event while administering chemotherapy, i.e. extravasations, infiltrations or chemotherapy spill incidents.
Qualifications - External
Education
Minimum Level of Education Required: Associate degree
Additional requirements:
ยง Type of degree: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
ยง Valid Ohio RN license
ยง Current CPR certification required at the time of hire.
ยง Fundamentals of Administration
ยง Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification or must obtain within 6 months
ยง OCN certification - must obtain within 1 year of eligibility
ยง ACLS required within 90 days of hire
Experience
Minimum Level of Experience Required: 1 - 3 years of job-related experience
Preferred experience: Prefer expertise in peripheral venipuncture and expert assessment skills related to vascular access and IV therapy access and IV therapy
