Contract Graduate Software Engineer information

How much do contract software engineers make?

Contract graduate software engineers typically earn between $20 and $50 per hour, depending on location, skills, and project complexity. Salaries can vary based on experience, with some contracts paying higher rates for specialized knowledge in programming languages or tools like Java, Python, or cloud platforms.

Will AI replace coders by 2040?

Contract graduate software engineers and other developers work alongside AI tools that automate certain coding tasks, but AI is unlikely to fully replace human coders by 2040. Instead, AI will serve as a complement, requiring programmers to focus on complex problem-solving, system design, and oversight of AI-generated code. Staying updated with new programming languages and AI integration skills will be important for future job security.

What is a Contract Graduate Software Engineer?

A Contract Graduate Software Engineer is a recent graduate who is hired on a temporary or fixed-term contract to work as a software engineer. These roles are often designed to give new graduates practical experience in software development, working on coding, testing, and supporting software projects. Contracts may last from a few months to a year, providing valuable exposure to real-world engineering environments. This can be a stepping stone to permanent employment or a way to explore different industries or companies.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior software engineers, especially those with specialized skills in areas like machine learning, cloud computing, or cybersecurity, can earn $300,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and stock options. High compensation is typically found in large tech companies or executive-level engineering roles requiring extensive experience and advanced technical expertise.

What kind of mentorship and training can a Contract Graduate Software Engineer expect during their tenure?

As a Contract Graduate Software Engineer, you can typically expect to receive structured onboarding and mentorship from senior engineers or team leads. Many organizations pair new graduates with experienced developers to guide them through code reviews, project workflows, and best practices, helping you quickly ramp up your technical and professional skills. While the contract nature of the role may mean a shorter onboarding period, teams often provide regular check-ins and learning resources to ensure your success. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is common, so you'll gain exposure to different aspects of the software development lifecycle.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced software engineers, especially those in senior or specialized roles at large tech companies, can earn $500,000 or more annually through base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Such compensation often requires advanced skills, extensive experience, and working in high-demand environments like Silicon Valley or similar tech hubs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Contract Graduate Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Contract Graduate Software Engineer, you need a solid understanding of programming languages (such as Java, Python, or C++), software development principles, and typically a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, agile development methodologies, and common development tools is important. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you collaborate within teams and adapt quickly to new projects. These skills ensure you can contribute to complex projects, meet client requirements, and grow successfully in a fast-evolving technical environment.

Job description

About AlayaCare

At AlayaCare, we're more than just a fast-growing SaaS company; we're a team of people passionate about transforming home healthcare. Our cloud-based platform empowers care providers around the world to deliver better outcomes for their clients.

With 650+ employees across Canada, the US, Australia, and Brazil, we're united by a shared mission and a strong culture of transparency, growth, and human connection. Whether you're early in your career or a seasoned expert, AlayaCare offers the opportunity to grow your impact, your skills, and your career.

About the Role

As a Senior Frontend Developer (Vue), you will play a key role in building the products that power better residential aged care in Australia, helping providers deliver safer, more connected care. You will join our Platform Engineering team and work closely with colleagues in Canada and Australia, partnering with Clinical, Finance, and Reporting teams to deliver highquality, accessible experiences in our AlayaCare Residential product.

You will focus on migrating our Resi platform from AngularJS to Vue 3, improving performance, accessibility, and maintainability while contributing to shared component libraries and automated testing. You will work in a modern, AIfirst development environment with a contemporary frontend stack and a cloudnative backend. If you are excited by solving complex UI challenges in a regulated, missiondriven space, this role is for you.

Our frontend stack is Vue 3 (3.5), TypeScript, JavaScript (ES6+), Vite, Pinia, PrimeVue, and Cypress, integrating with aย backend built on C#, .NET, and MSSQL Server. We run Docker and Kubernetes on AWS, with Git and Azure DevOps inย our pipeline, and use Jasper Report and DataDog for reporting and monitoring.

This is a fully remote 12 month full-time contract position.

What You'll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain performant, accessible Vue 3 user interfaces that enable care providers to work efficiently and accurately.

  • Lead the migration of existing AngularJS pages and components to Vue, preserving functionality while elevating the user experience.

  • Diagnose and resolve UI and UX discrepancies that arise during migration to ensure a consistent, intuitive product experience.

  • Contribute to code reviews and technical discussions, championing best practices and frontend innovation across the team.

  • Implement and maintain component and endtoend automated tests with Cypress to secure quality and regression coverage.

  • Optimize frontend performance, including bundle size and rendering, and uphold WCAG accessibility standards across the product.

  • Monitor your code in production, investigate issues raised by clients, and ship fixes that improve stability and customer trust.

What You Bring to the Team
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant focus on modern frontend development.
  • Proven experience building production singlepage applications in Vue, ideally Vue 3, using TypeScript and modern JavaScript (ES6+).

  • Demonstrated success migrating or modernizing large frontends, ideally from AngularJS to Vue or React, in a mixed legacy and greenfield codebase.

  • Strong understanding of component architecture, reactive patterns, and state management with tools such as Pinia or Vuex.

  • Handson experience with modern build tooling like Vite or Webpack and with CSS or SCSS for responsive, accessible interfaces.

  • Experience using component and endtoend testing frameworks such as Cypress to safeguard quality.

  • Ability to make sound technical decisions in ambiguous situations, communicate clearly with technical and nontechnical partners, and collaborate across time zones.

  • Curiosity to learn new technologies, keep up with industry trends, and use AI coding assistants or similar tools to accelerate highquality delivery.

If you do not meet every single requirement but feel you are strong in many of these areas, we'd still love to hear from you.
