Job description

Looking for a familia?
At LUZCO, we're more than an engineering firm. We're a tight-knit team of people who care deeply about what we do and who we work with. As an award-winning, woman-owned, minority-owned boutique engineering firm, we've built a reputation for delivering world-class work while creating a culture that feels like home. We're proud to be a place where you can bring your authentic self to work every day and feel supported doing it.
We're proud to be recognized as a 2025 Best Place to Work in St. Louis, a reflection of our people-first mindset and our belief that work should be both challenging and fulfilling. Our mission is simple: to provide innovative engineering solutions while building genuine, lasting connections with our clients and each other.
Why You'll Love LUZCO
  • Benefits that take care of you: Top-notch medical, dental, and vision insurance; a competitive 401k match; generous PTO; and an employee recognition platform that celebrates your wins big and small.
  • Flexibility that fits your life: We get that life doesn't always stick to a schedule. You'll work with your supervisor to create a schedule that's flexible and works for both you and the team.
  • Diversity that fuels innovation: Our team brings together a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences. That diversity isn't just something we talk about; it's what drives our creativity and helps us find better ways to solve problems.
  • Growth that feels personal: Whether you're continuing your education, earning new certifications, or stepping into new challenges, we're here to help you grow in the direction that's right for you. You'll collaborate with experienced mentors and leaders who want to see you succeed.
  • A culture that gives back: We're passionate about our communities. Every year, we dedicate paid time off for volunteering and encourage our team to use their talents to make a difference whether that's mentoring students, serving local nonprofits, or getting hands-on in community projects.
  • A workplace that feels like you: We keep things relaxed and welcoming. Expect weekly happy hours, team lunches, a stocked kitchen, dogs in the office, and a casual dress code. It's a space where you can be yourself and do your best work.

The Role
We're excited to welcome a new graduate Electrical Engineer to join our substation engineering team. This role is ideal for May 2026 Electrical Engineering graduates who are looking to launch their career in power and substation design with hands-on experience, mentorship, and real project exposure starting Summer 2026.
What Your Day Will Look Like
  • Create and modify one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay panel arrangements, and cable schedules for high-voltage substations (32.4-230kV).
  • Support engineering and construction documentation for new substation installations and modifications, including bills of materials, yard layouts, plan and section views, and electrical details.
  • Assist with substation grounding designs, including ground grids, rigid and strain bus, and raceway layouts.
  • Support the design of auxiliary AC and DC power systems.
  • Help develop and update technical specifications for major substation equipment such as power transformers, circuit breakers, and control houses.
  • Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to support protection, control, and monitoring system integration.
  • Participate in construction, testing, and commissioning support, gaining valuable field exposure.
  • Apply field markups to as-built drawings and perform basic engineering calculations (e.g., voltage drop, CT burden, saturation, lighting, short-circuit) with guidance and mentorship.
  • Travel up to 25%, depending on project needs.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as assigned, with opportunities to learn across different project phases.

What You'll Bring to the Familia
Essentials to Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with an anticipated graduation date of May 2026.
  • FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam preferred but not required.
  • Coursework or familiarity with power systems, substations, or electrical design is a plus.
  • Exposure to relevant standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a desire to learn and grow.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with ability to travel to project sites.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Excel is a plus but not required.

Ready to Make an Impact?
We know you might not check every single box on the job description-and that's totally fine. At LUZCO, we care about potential, collaboration, and diverse perspectives. If you're passionate about joining a supportive and innovative team, we encourage you to apply and show us what you can bring to the familia.
