About the PositionEnsemble Performing Arts is seeking an experienced Brass & Woodwind Repair Technician to support our instrument repair needs at
Flatts and Sharpe Music Company, our Norwood Park location in Chicago, IL. We are looking for a technician to evaluate, repair, and set up brass and wind instruments with precision and efficiency. This role requires strong technical skill, the ability to work independently, and excellent communication with staff and customers.
This is a contract (1099) position, and the ideal candidate has their own fully equipped workspace or access to a professional repair workbench and tools.What you'll do:- Evaluate brass and woodwind instruments to diagnose mechanical and structural issues
- Perform repairs including pad replacement, dent removal, soldering, key fitting, alignment, cork and felt work, cleaning, and full overhauls
- Complete professional set ups to ensure instruments play at optimal performance levels
- Communicate clearly with customers and staff regarding repair needs, timelines, and cost estimates
- Manage multiple repair projects efficiently while meeting deadlines
- Maintain accurate repair records, work orders, and reporting documentation
- Ensure quality control and consistency across all completed work
Successful candidates will have the following qualifications:- A degree from an accredited instrument repair school or equivalent experience - recent graduates encouraged to apply
- Fundamental skills necessary for evaluation, repair, and professional set up of brass and wind instruments
- A strong customer-service mindset and attention to detail
- Ability to manage workflow and prioritize multiple projects
The details:- The desired time commitment for this position is approximately 20-25 hours/week
- Pay will be commensurate with experience and will be in the range of $28-32/hour
