Buyer Planner – Cary, NC

We are seeking a Buyer Planner to assist the Supply Chain team within the Finance organization. The Supply Chain team strategically sources quality materials and services at the lowest total cost while enabling effective and efficient purchasing solutions and enhancing supplier partnerships. Day to day you will strategically sources quality materials and services at lowest total cost. As a Buyer Planner you will partner cross-functionally develop forecast and execution plans to secure authorization of inventory liability.


Must Haves

  • 5+ yrs materials/demand planning experience; forecasting material needs and managing inventory levels.
  • Hands-on with Oracle ERP or similar ERP/MRP system; comfortable pulling and reconciling inventory data.
  • Experience managing excess/obsolete inventory, product lifecycle changes and material exposure/liability.
  • Works directly with suppliers/vendors on forecasts, orders, discrepancies, availability and spares.
  • Strong Excel/reporting and cross-functional communication; works with Supply Chain, Sourcing, Finance and Operations/field teams.


Job Description

  • Manage the business unit inventory, including evaluation, approval of return from projects, inventory transactional alignment, execution, reconciliation and inventory projections and tracking.
  • Manage the implications and outlook associated with new product introduction and product life cycle strategy for product obsolescence.
  • Provide ongoing metrics and reporting related to goals set for forecast accuracy, forecast timeliness, forecast authorization, and forecast-related inventory exposure.
  • Establish a “spares” strategy for new suppliers and subsequent negotiations and existing suppliers and inventories.
  • Integrate full life cycle management techniques assuming a 10+ year environment of materials planning and management.
  • Work with suppliers, colleagues, business partners, and field teams to facilitate forecasting and ordering process. Resolve discrepancies related to products ordered versus forecasted.
  • Work closely with the strategic sourcing team to understand contracts with suppliers related to materials and services. Drive demand of materials and services to preferred suppliers.
  • Evaluate and submit analyses on monthly, quarterly and annual excess and obsolete materials to business units and accounting.
  • Assist with development of streamlined processes for forecast-to-order cycle and have good controls in place for the process.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Other Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of materials demand planning experience required.
  • Oracle or other ERP system experience required.
  • Previous customer service experience preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment.
