Responsibilities
Are you detail-oriented, organized, and interested in building a career in the insurance and surety industry? We are seeking a Surety Underwriting Assistant to provide technical, administrative, and underwriting support to our field offices. In this role, you will develop a strong foundation in both contract and commercial surety while supporting underwriters with new and existing business, bond processing, portfolio management, and agency inquiries.
What You'll Do
  • Establish and amend account submissions and bond-related information in the BASIS system, ensuring all records are accurate, complete, and compliant with company standards.
  • Prepare bid and final bond requests (contract and commercial) for underwriting review and approval.
  • Update bid status information and maintain accurate bond activity records within the system.
  • Process final bonds by verifying data accuracy, premium calculations, commissions, and supporting documentation in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Support bond portfolio management activities, including pre-renewal and renewal processes, ensuring timely processing, closure, or cancellation of bonds.
  • Develop and apply knowledge of BSG Rating Manuals and rating worksheets to accurately calculate premiums and code bond activity.
  • Order and manage credit reports, including Experian reports, to support underwriting decisions.
  • Respond to inquiries from agents, brokers, and internal stakeholders regarding bond-related matters.
  • Assist with mail distribution and billing-related inquiries as needed.
  • Perform additional administrative and operational duties in support of the underwriting team.

Qualifications
  • 2 years of experience serving in an operational support or customer service role
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to write clear and effective business correspondence to both internal and external customers.
  • Ability to use the automation tools provided by BSG (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Imaging, U/W System, etc.).
  • Self-starter with the ability to organize and effectively handle assigned work load with supervision.
  • Ability to be collaborative and effectively work in a "team" setting.
