Job description

Electrical Test Support Engineer

Position Details:

Location: San Francisco, CA 94107

Type: 6 month contract (can extend or convert)

About the Role

As an Electrical Test Support Engineer you will play a critical role in maintaining the quality and long-term operation of our core hardware platform. In this role you will design and implement test fixtures, conduct component-level failure analysis on returned hardware, generate detailed FA documentation, and analyze RMA trends to drive measurable improvements in field reliability. You will report into Senior Manager, Hardware Engineering and work closely with Key Stakeholders] We're looking for a recent college graduate with hands-on experience in hardware testing, manufacturing test engineering, or failure analysis — someone who can systematically isolate root causes using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and protocol analyzers, is comfortable in Linux environments with shell scripting for automated diagnostics, and communicates findings clearly through structured reports to cross-functional teams and vendors.

Key Responsibilities

Below are your primary responsibilities. These represent the core areas where you’ll make an impact. As part of a rapidly evolving team, we look forward to your impact expanding over time.

  • Test development: Design and implement automated or manual test fixtures to support hardware validation and sustaining activities.
  • Failure analysis: Probe, test, and debug returned hardware to identify root causes of failures. Conduct component-level troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and protocol analyzers.
  • Reporting: Generate comprehensive first-level analysis reports and detailed FA documentation to be shared with cross-functional teams and vendors.
  • Process improvement: Analyze RMA data trends to recommend design or firmware changes that reduce field failure rates.

Required Qualifications

The qualifications below outline the experience and skills most relevant to success in this role. We recognize that skills and potential come in many forms, and we welcome diverse experiences that advance our mission.

  • Experience: 1+ years in hardware testing, manufacturing test engineering, or failure analysis.
  • Core skills: Proficiency in debugging embedded systems and high-speed communication interfaces. Experience with Linux-based systems and shell scripting for automated diagnostic routines. Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, multimeters, and protocol analyzers.
  • Personal attributes: Systematic, methodical approach to isolating variables on defective devices. Clear written communication for technical reports shared with cross-functional teams and vendors.
  • Education: B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Nice to have: Experience with JIRA for bug tracking and Confluence for technical documentation.
