To thrive as a Contract Designer, you need a solid background in contract law, drafting, and negotiation, often supported by a degree in law or business and relevant experience. Familiarity with contract management systems, document automation tools, and legal research platforms is typically required. Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for excelling in this role. What is contract design?

Contract design refers to the process of creating and structuring legal agreements that clearly define the rights, responsibilities, and expectations of all parties involved. This role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contract terms to ensure they are legally sound, fair, and align with business objectives. Contract designers work closely with legal, procurement, and business teams to minimize risk and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

How does a Contract Designer typically collaborate with clients and other team members throughout a project?

Contract Designers often work closely with clients to understand their vision, goals, and requirements for each project. They also coordinate with internal teams such as project managers, engineers, and other designers to ensure design concepts align with technical feasibility and project milestones. Effective communication and flexibility are key, as Contract Designers may need to adapt their designs based on client feedback and evolving project needs. Regular meetings, design reviews, and collaborative digital tools are commonly used to keep all stakeholders aligned and ensure successful project delivery.

Role Summary

Rowan Digital Infrastructure is seeking an experienced energy contracts professional to help power the next generation of hyperscale data center campuses with reliable, clean, and cost-effective energy. As Energy Supply Contract Lead, you will manage the post-execution operation of Rowan's power and on site generation (OSG) agreements and shape how Rowan procures clean energy at scale. You will run vendor and contract management across the portfolio, tracking key dates, obligations, renewals, and credit triggers, leading compliance across deliverables and filings, and owning working-level counterparty engagement on amendments and contract changes. You will build the OSG and clean energy procurement analytics that shape how Rowan structures supply, fuel delivery, and delivery economics, screen contract drafts against market terms, and provide structuring support as Rowan expands its clean energy footprint. You will also own the contract and environmental-attribute data behind ESG and clean energy reporting, partnering with Sustainability and Finance on reporting cycles and external disclosures that demonstrate Rowan's progress toward a lower-carbon, more resilient digital infrastructure future.

Travel: Ability for up to 25% travel to company gatherings or to project sites

Location: Denver, CO or Seattle, WA (Hybrid)

Compensation: $170,000-$215,000 (Offers Bonus)

Essential Responsibilities

ESG / Clean Energy

  • Own the contract and environmental-attribute data behind Rowan's ESG and clean energy reporting

  • Track EAC ownership, retirement, and emissions-relevant contract terms across the portfolio

  • Partner with Sustainability and Finance to feed reporting cycles and external disclosures

OSG Analytics and Contracting

  • Build and maintain OSG analytics across supply, fuel delivery, and delivery economics; provide contract structuring and term analysis

  • Translate emerging OSG structures into standardized templates, playbooks, standard terms and conditions, and diligence checklists

Vendor and Contract Management

  • Own the source-of-truth tracker for every executed power and OSG contract, including key commercial and legal terms

  • Run compliance across deliverables, filings, attestations, and audit trails

  • Manage working-level counterparty engagement on amendments, notices, and renewals

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, engineering, finance, or related discipline

  • 8+ years in energy contract management, contract administration, or commercial operations at a utility, IPP, retailer, OSG developer, hyperscaler energy team, or large industrial energy buyer

  • Direct experience across both power and OSG contracting

  • Working fluency in market-standard terms across at least one of ERCOT, PJM, MISO, WECC, or SPP

  • Familiarity with environmental-attribute, carbon accounting boundaries, and carbon reporting implications of contract design

  • Strong systems and data instincts; comfortable with CLM, spreadsheet, and BI tooling

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication; professional in counterparty-facing settings

Preferred

  • Hands-on experience operating a CLM platform (Ironclad, Agiloft, Lexion, or similar)

  • Experience with on site generation agreements and contracting

  • Exposure to hyperscaler customer contracting cycles.
