What is a Contract Databricks Developer?

A Contract Databricks Developer is a data engineering professional hired on a temporary or project basis to develop, optimize, and maintain data pipelines and analytics solutions using the Databricks platform. They work with cloud data technologies, Spark, and big data frameworks to support organizations in managing large-scale data processing and analytics tasks. Their responsibilities often include building ETL workflows, collaborating with data scientists, and ensuring data quality and performance in data-driven projects.

What are some common challenges faced by Contract Databricks Developers when starting a new project?

As a Contract Databricks Developer joining a new project, you may encounter challenges such as quickly understanding the existing data architecture, adapting to the client's specific workflow, and ensuring seamless integration with their cloud infrastructure (often Azure or AWS). You’ll also need to align with established data governance and security protocols while collaborating with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders. Effective communication and proactive documentation are key to overcoming these hurdles and delivering value efficiently within the contract period.

What is the difference between Contract Databricks Developer vs Data Engineer?

Job description

Octagon Talent Solutions is hiring a Data Warehouse Architect / Data Modeler in the Fort Lauderdale area to help shape our client company’s next-generation analytics foundation. In this hands-on role, you’ll architect a hybrid Databricks + Microsoft Fabric ecosystem, designing the data models that power decision-making, guiding lakehouse/warehouse structure, and partnering with data engineers to keep the platform scalable, trusted, and ready for an exciting future in the energy industry!

Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end data modeling for our client company’s modern data platform (conceptual, logical, and physical models)
  • Design scalable dimensional models (star/snowflake), canonical entities, and conformed dimensions to enable consistent reporting across domains
  • Partner with data engineers to implement models in a lakehouse context (Delta/Medallion patterns) across Databricks and Fabric
  • Define data contracts and modeling standards that improve consistency, quality, and downstream usability
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into clear data definitions, metrics, and model structures
  • Support pipeline design by providing modeling guidance for ingestion, transformation, and curated layers
  • Create and maintain documentation (data dictionaries, lineage, model diagrams) and ensure models remain understandable and maintainable
  • Contribute to performance and cost optimization (partitioning strategies, model design choices, query patterns)
  • Support modernization efforts as the company introduces Fabric components alongside existing Databricks investments
  • Collaborate on initiatives that enable agentic/AI use cases through clean, well-described data structures

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in data modeling / data warehousing / analytics engineering (or equivalent)
  • Proven expertise in dimensional modeling and data warehouse best practices
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks and Delta Lake concepts
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric (or strong readiness to operate in Fabric), including lakehouse/warehouse concepts
  • Experience building/maintaining models that support enterprise reporting and analytics
  • Strong SQL skills and ability to reason about query performance and warehouse design
  • Experience with orchestration and integration patterns using Azure Data Factory (ADF)
  • Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders (definitions, tradeoffs, and standards)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Azure-native data stacks (ADLS, ADF, Synapse, Purview, etc.)
  • Experience designing governance-oriented modeling standards (quality checks, naming conventions, metric definitions)
  • Experience with data observability and/or data quality tooling
  • Experience enabling self-service analytics and semantic layer practices
  • Familiarity with AI/ML data readiness and feature/curation patterns

Work Authorization

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder). No H-1B sponsorship is possible for this role.
