Job description

The Platform Engineer builds and maintains the internal platforms and tooling that enable development and operations teams to deploy, monitor, and scale applications reliably in a secure federal environment. This role designs standardized infrastructure patterns, CI/CD pipelines, and self-service capabilities that reduce friction and improve delivery speed across on-premises and cloud environments. The engineer automates provisioning, configuration, and observability of compute, storage, and networking resources while embedding security and compliance controls into the platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement foundational infrastructure platforms that support multiple application teams with standardized patterns and services.
  • Develop and maintain automation for infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and environment lifecycle using scripting or infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Build and operate CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows that enforce quality gates and support frequent, reliable releases.
  • Integrate logging, metrics, and tracing into platform services to provide comprehensive observability and rapid incident response.
  • Embed security and compliance controls into platform components, including access management, encryption, and policy-as-code.
  • Provide self-service capabilities, documentation, and support so product teams can consume platform services efficiently.
  • Collaborate with DevOps, application, and security teams to prioritize platform features and refine the platform based on feedback.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Approximately 8 years of experience in platform engineering or related roles such as DevOps or infrastructure engineering.
  • Strong understanding of platform engineering principles and experience with technologies such as virtualization, containerization, and cloud platforms.
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting, and experience implementing CI/CD, environment automation, and observability capabilities.
  • Knowledge of data security best practices and experience embedding security controls into infrastructure platforms.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience running an internal developer platform that offers self-service capabilities, documentation, and support for multiple product teams.
  • Experience in platform assessments, automation, and disaster recovery, with a focus on improving platform reliability and scalability.
  • Relevant certifications such as CKA or AWS Solutions Architect.
  • Familiarity with the specific federal program IT environment and associated policies.
