Proficiency in project management software (such as MS Project), familiarity with data center standards (like Uptime Institute or TIA-942), and contract management systems are essential. Exceptional organizational, leadership, and communication skills help manage cross-functional teams and stakeholders. These abilities ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget, and in compliance with technical and contractual requirements.

What are some common challenges a contract data center project manager might face during a project, and how can they be addressed?

Contract Data Center Project Managers often encounter challenges such as managing tight project timelines, coordinating between multiple vendors, and ensuring compliance with strict security protocols. Successfully addressing these challenges requires proactive communication, strong organizational skills, and a thorough understanding of both client requirements and technical specifications. Building strong relationships with stakeholders, maintaining detailed project documentation, and regularly monitoring progress can help mitigate risks and keep the project on track. Job description

Project Safety Manager – Mission Critical / Data Center (Electrical Contractor)
Location: Sullivan, IN
Pay: $50–$60/hour
Per Diem: $133/day (6 days/week) for candidates living more than 60 miles from the project site
Project Duration: Through November 2027

We are seeking an experienced Project Safety Manager to lead all safety operations for a large-scale data center project in Sullivan, Indiana. This position is with a leading electrical contractor and requires a seasoned safety professional with experience supporting mission-critical or data center construction projects.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who is highly visible in the field, leads by example, and is passionate about building a world-class safety culture. This individual will oversee all project safety efforts, mentor a team of safety professionals, and partner with project leadership to ensure safe execution of all electrical installation activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all site safety efforts for a large-scale mission-critical/data center project.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of project safety professionals.
  • Promote a proactive, field-driven safety culture by leading through visibility and engagement—not from behind a desk.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, company policies, and client-specific safety requirements.
  • Conduct daily field audits, safety inspections, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and behavioral observations.
  • Oversee electrical safety practices including arc flash protection, energized work, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and electrical hazard mitigation.
  • Investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead site orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training.
  • Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, foremen, and subcontractors to proactively resolve safety concerns.
  • Maintain safety documentation, reporting, and compliance records while remaining actively engaged in field operations.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of construction safety experience, preferably supporting electrical contractors.
  • Required: Previous experience on data center and/or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading site safety and managing teams of safety professionals on large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and electrical safety best practices.
  • Experience with arc flash hazards, energized electrical work, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and electrical hazard recognition.
  • OSHA 30 required; OSHA 500 preferred.
  • CHST, CSP, or other BCSP certifications are highly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Must be a hands-on leader who is comfortable spending the majority of the day in the field coaching crews and reinforcing safe work practices.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $50–$60/hour, based on experience.
  • $133/day per diem (6 days per week) for candidates who reside more than 60 miles from the project site.
  • Long-term project through November 2027.
  • Opportunity to lead safety operations on a high-profile mission-critical data center project with a nationally recognized electrical contractor.
