Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Project Engineer to support the planning, execution, and delivery of capital and operational projects within a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing contractors, coordinating field activities, developing project schedules and budgets, supporting commissioning activities, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and construction standards. The role requires strong technical, project management, and communication skills, with significant on-site presence.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate capital and facility improvement projects from concept through completion.
  • Review contractor bids, technical proposals, and cost estimates to support project funding and execution decisions.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
  • Manage contractors and field activities, including work permits, safety compliance, and construction oversight.
  • Conduct equipment assessments, site investigations, and technical evaluations.
  • Troubleshoot construction, equipment, and process-related issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor project progress, costs, and schedules to ensure successful execution.
  • Facilitate kick-off meetings, progress reviews, and coordination meetings with contractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Prepare project documentation, status reports, and funding approval packages.
  • Support commissioning, start-up, and asset capitalization activities.
  • Ensure compliance with plant safety, quality, and engineering standards.
  • Review technical drawings, equipment documentation, and engineering deliverables.
  • Support control panel improvements, wiring organization, and PLC system reviews as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, Industrial, or related discipline).
  • 2-5 years of engineering or project management experience in manufacturing, industrial, consumer products, pharmaceutical, food, or related environments.
  • Experience managing contractors and field construction activities.
  • Knowledge of project scheduling, budgeting, and cost control.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with capital projects, facilities, utilities, or manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledge of commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Experience with PLC systems, control panels, and industrial automation.
  • Familiarity with safety programs, work permits, and contractor management.
  • PMP certification or formal project management training is a plus.
