Job description

Project Engineering CAD Technician

Location: Norfolk, VA

Reports to: Head of Production Engineering

Summary

Support the Head of Production Engineering in planning electrical prefabrication for commercial and industrial projects. Assist with engineering calculations, CAD drawings, minor estimating, and engineering coordination to ensure work packages are accurate for field.


Key Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing engineering plans, layouts, and CAD drawings using Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Revit.

• Support Head of Production Engineering in performing and reviewing engineering calculations.

• Compile material take-offs and assist in procurement planning.

• Aid in the evaluation and application of engineering methods, procedures, and selection criteria.

• Help resolve technical issues by applying accepted engineering principles and standards.

• Maintain project documentation, engineering records, and prefabrication plans.

• Interpret blueprints and leverage estimating software as needed.

• Ensure compliance with commercial/industrial building codes, related control systems, and engineering best practices.

• Collaborate with project teams during estimating, prefabrication, and production phases.


Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in commercial or industrial construction, preferably electrical.

• Proficient in Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Excel.

• Ability to read/comprehend blueprints and interpret computerized cost data.

• Working knowledge of commercial and industrial building codes, controls, and electrical systems.

• Strong math, analytical, critical-thinking, organizational, and communication skills.

• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal abilities.
