Job Description
Psychiatric Prescriber (1099 - Contractor Status)
Canopy Mental Health & Consulting is seeking a Psychiatric Provider (MD/DO [psychiatrist], PA, or APRN license and certification) to work as an independent contractor (1099-Contractor). There may be an opportunity to transition to a full-time role in the future, if desired. Work location is flexible and can be done in any combination of in-office or telemedicine.
Clinicians who identify as BIPOC or as members of historically marginalized/underserved groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
The individual in this role provides services in an outpatient setting, and in close collaboration with outpatient psychotherapists. Moderate administrative support is provided. The Clinical Manager serves as the contractor's primary point of contact for clinical matters.
This Independent contractor role offers a flexible schedule, high levels of autonomy, with some caseload building/maintenance responsibility. Contractor compensation is based on collected revenue. The applicable MinnesotaCare Provider Tax is deducted first, followed by a 30% administrative fee for billing and other administrative services. Any agreed-upon charges, such as office rent or clinical supervision, are then deducted from the contractor's share.The role is not eligible for benefits.
Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluating clients by conducting intakes, assessing their medical histories, and conducting psychological testing
  • Analyzing data and assessment results in order to diagnose clients
  • Prescribing and administering treatments and medication depending on client diagnosis
  • Developing a treatment plan, evaluating the results of that plan and making changes as necessary
  • Taking consultation calls from staff regarding shared client emergencies as needed
  • Collaborating with client care teams as needed
  • Completing billing and clinical documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Following legal and professional obligations, such as HIPAA compliance and confidentiality, as well as all federal, state and local legal guidelines, license criteria and professional code of ethics
Required Qualifications:
  • Licensed (or soon-to-be) in the State of Minnesota to independently prescribe (MD, DO, CNP, PA etc.)
  • Valid DEA certificate
  • Experience with and passion for working with marginalized communities and BIPOC clients
  • Experience working with an EHR (electronic health record) system. Canopy currently uses Procentive
  • Comfortable working in a paperless service setting
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards governing care delivery and operations
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience, training and willingness to work with children and adolescents
  • Experience maintaining client records in an electronic health record system and basic knowledge of insurance billing processes (CPT codes, diagnostic codes, use of modifiers, etc.).
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about providing culturally responsive services, equitable healthcare access, and social and economic challenges of the clients that they work with
