Job description

Job Title: Geotechnical Engineer
***Work Location: Nashville, TN***
Salary: Based on experience and will be discussed with manager in interview
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Provide geotechnical engineering and guidance for due diligence, investigation, impact assessment, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, analysis, concept development, planning, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, canals, levees, bridges, airports, water supply systems, underground storage, and sewage treatment.
  • Perform basic professional geotechnical engineering work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, including subsurface investigations, soil foundation engineering, settlement analysis, soil erosion, lateral earth pressures, geological hazards, underground water, and slope stability for commercial, industrial, building, infrastructure, and transportation projects.
  • Perform and/or leading field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided.
  • Verify the characteristics of a site and providing technical assistance on various design, and construction issues involving rock and soil mechanics, and investigating subsurface and geological conditions to design and build foundations, earth structures, and pavement sub-grades.
  • Write technical reports summarizing research with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using sketches, calculations, electronic systems, spreadsheets, and software.
  • Develop work plan preparation and coordination of field/site work and laboratory testing.
  • Provide support services during construction that can include submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, and contract document clarifications.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or EIT is preferred
  • 5+ years of geotechnical engineering experience
  • Ability to prepare complete, concise, and organized engineering calculations and reports
  • Proficient in Geotechnical software including gINT, Slope/W, Seep/W, APILE, LPILE, GRLWeap, Settle3D (or other settlement software)
  • Ability to travel to project sites and the physical ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions.
  • Must have a valid driverโ€™s license and be insurable
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
Physical Requirements:
  • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
  • Ability to carry required instruments and equipment
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • The worker is subject to variable climate and environmental conditions including but not limited to extreme cold and heat.
