What is a contract C Qt developer?

Contract C Qt Developers are software professionals hired on a temporary or project basis to design, develop, and maintain applications using the C programming language and the Qt framework. They are responsible for building cross-platform applications, typically with rich graphical user interfaces, for desktop or embedded systems. These developers are usually engaged for specific projects or to fill short-term technical needs, rather than as permanent employees. Their expertise lies in leveraging the power of C and the flexibility of Qt to deliver efficient, scalable software solutions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a contract C Qt developer?

To thrive as a Contract C Qt Developer, you need strong proficiency in C/C++ programming, experience with the Qt framework, and a solid understanding of software development principles. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, debugging tools, and build automation software is typically required, and certifications in C++ or Qt can be advantageous. Outstanding problem-solving skills, effective communication, and adaptability help developers excel in collaborative and fast-paced contract environments. These competencies ensure high-quality, efficient software solutions tailored to client needs and project timelines.

What are some common challenges faced by contract C Qt developers when integrating with legacy systems?

Contract C Qt Developers often encounter challenges when integrating modern Qt-based interfaces with older legacy systems, such as compatibility issues, lack of documentation, and varying coding standards. Our core expertise includes Protection & Control (P&C) Substations, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Solar, and Renewable Energy Integration. NEEC’s commissioning team ensures that every system operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with the highest industry standards.

About the Role

The Quality Control Specialist will play a critical role in supporting substation projects by overseeing and executing quality inspections during the fabrication of control houses for NextEra Energy initiatives in Ohio. This position is responsible for ensuring that all wiring, materials, installation practices, and construction standards meet strict utility-grade requirements and client specifications, while identifying potential issues early and supporting successful project delivery.

The ideal candidate brings prior experience in utility environments such as NextEra Energy or Florida Power & Light (FPL), along with a strong understanding of substation Protection & Control (P&C) systems and quality inspection processes. This is a travel-based role, requiring the candidate to be located in or travel frequently to Ohio during the duration of the project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform quality control inspections of control houses fabricated for utility substations
  • Verify wiring practices, panel assembly, and installation methods meet NextEra Energy standards
  • Review drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams against field installations
  • Ensure compliance with utility specifications, P&C standards, and safety requirements
  • Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with fabrication teams
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and documentation for stakeholders
  • Collaborate with NEEC engineering teams and NextEra project representatives
  • Provide technical feedback during fabrication and pre-shipment inspections

Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with NextEra Energy or Florida Power & Light (FPL) strongly preferred
  • Hands-on experience with substation Protection & Control (P&C) systems
  • Strong understanding of control house wiring, relay panels, and utility standards
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings
  • Experience performing quality inspections or commissioning in utility environments
  • Willingness to travel or temporarily reside in Ohio during project duration

Preferred Experience

  • Former NextEra Energy / FPL employee or contractor
  • Substation P&C technician or commissioning background
  • Experience with control house fabrication or installation
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, relay panels, RTUs, and station communication systems

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Paid time off and holidays.
  • Professional development programs and leadership training.
  • A dynamic, growth-oriented environment committed to innovation and excellence.
