Job description

The mission of newly opened Breakthrough Academy is to provide underserved children in Kansas City with opportunities in STEM – to learn, connect, be nurtured and prepare for success. The PreK-5th grade elementary program helps young children become school-ready and helps elementary students thrive by offering real-world experiences while creating the conditions necessary for all children to thrive as self-directed, lifelong learners. Our vision is that all children have what they need to reach their full potential.


We are looking for a school leader to help bring our school mission and vision to life.


JOB SUMMARY

The OB Elementary School Principal is responsible for the supervision to teaching staff and works with the OB leadership team in coordination, instructional delivery and evaluation of staff and student performance. The supervisory responsibilities must be conducted in accordance with organizational policies and with respect to all applicable laws and regulations.


QUALIFICATIONS


  • Master’s degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Valid certificate from the Missouri Department of Education as an Elementary Principal.
  • Missouri Teaching License with a minimum of three year’s teaching experience
  • Possess a commitment to the importance of STEM and hands-on project-based learning in elementary school.
  • Lead from a belief in the importance of a student-centered instructional model which places the student at the center of learning.
  • Possess an understanding of collaborative management methods and the ability to apply them to the administration of instructional services in a well-organized manner.
  • Possess a valid philosophy of education that recognizes the need for appropriate programs to serve a wide range of student abilities, needs, and interests.
  • Ability to deal with personnel considerations in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Ability to supervise others using empathy and respect.
  • Ability to relate to community and parents.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully and clearly with all constituents.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive relationships with co-workers.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to the use of Conscious Discipline


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Provide professional leadership in organizing, administering, supervising, and evaluating a creative STEM elementary school program.
  • Establish an optimal learning environment within the school.
  • Provide a focus on data to inform school progress
  • Ensure that all school programs and activities conform to district guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school and community.
  • Work effectively with community organizations.
  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Interacts with students to encourage each individual to perform at their highest level.
  • Manage/Supervise teaching staff.
  • Resolve staff problems and provide support to teachers.
  • Provide general supervision to students.
  • Maintain positive relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers and outside agencies.
  • Maintain regular contact with parents regarding the needs, achievement and behavior of their children (conferences, booster meetings, newsletters, etc.)
  • Implement a strong STEM based comprehensive curriculum and program of services in cooperation with teachers and other staff.
  • Develop an atmosphere of respect, interest, and enthusiasm within the school.
  • Communicate openly and effectively with students, community, staff, and administration.
  • Supervise and provide for the general welfare of students during the school day, on school trips, and during school activities.
  • Lead with Conscious Discipline
  • Develop/Update an annual student handbook containing information, rules, and regulations.
  • Participate in monthly administrative meetings.
  • Attend all regularly scheduled meetings of the school board.
  • Work a twelve (12) month year with PTO provided as defined in the work contract.
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Curriculum & Instruction in undertaking such other duties as needed.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoor and outdoor classroom and outdoor recess (weather permitting).
