Job description

Science Teacher (Biological Sciences)

Join a dedicated team that fosters autonomy and creativity, while receiving a competitive salary, opportunities for career and personal growth, and the gratification that comes from creating positive multi-generational change.

Ednovate Background

Ednovate launched its first school in 2012. Since then, weve grown to eight schools and are on a trajectory to reach 11 schools in just the next few years (you can read more about our schools here). Ednovate is committed to serving areas where students traditionally lack access to a quality college-prep education by building tuition-free, safe, high-performing public schools driven to create positive multi-generational change.

We are made up of world travelers, nacho connoisseurs, KPOP business owners, and Beyonce fans. We love LA and OC, and we're our students' biggest cheerleaders. We are looking to hire innovative changemakers who aim to continue our goal of becoming the high school experts across Southern California. Sound like you? Keep reading.

Position Overview

As a Biological Sciences Teacher, you will drive exceptional student learning, ensuring all meet or exceed ambitious standards for academic and social-emotional growth and achievement. In addition to planning and implementing a rigorous standards-aligned biology curriculum, you will coach and support a cohort of advisees throughout their time at Ednovate and actively contribute to a positive, solutions-oriented team and school culture. This role is an exciting opportunity for educators who believe deeply that all students can and must achieve at high levels and who are hungry to learn and grow as in a collaborative, results-oriented environment. This full-time, exempt position reports to the principal.

What You'll Do

  • Master your content. Develop and implement cutting edge digital curriculum, powered by the Common Core Standards/NGSS Standards, and ensure students across all identity groups have access to a high-quality, personalized college prep experience. Develop in students a fundamental understanding of life processes, organisms and their interactions with the environment, fostering scientific literacy, critical thinking, and problem solving through hands-on discovery, while fostering a lifelong love of science.

  • Implement best-in-class personalized instruction. Create and execute rigorous lesson and unit plans through backwards planning. Regularly track student mastery through Ednovates data systems and use a data-driven approach to regularly adapt instruction. Lead students in developing their passion and purpose through project-based learning opportunities. Provide students with clear, actionable feedback to drive continuous growth.

  • Build transformative relationships with students. Through your advisory, mentor a group of students throughout their high school experience. Support advisees in meeting yearly promotion requirements through guided reflection and one-on-one conferences.

  • Create and maintain a caring and accountable student culture. Establish clear, consistent, logical class structures, routines, and expectations aligned with our student culture model. Foster a sense of community through relationship-building among students. Hold consistently high expectations for all students and support students to meet them. Create a sense of urgency, optimism, and engagement amongst students.

  • Contribute positively to the team. Build positive relationships with your teammates. Lean into your vulnerability as a means of building trust. Actively engage in difficult conversations and debate to ensure the best ideas surface. Drive for clarity in decision making. Seek, implement, and offer feedback necessary for individual and team growth. Commit to collective results.

Who You'll Be

  • Mission-driven professional passionate about increasing college attainment for historically under-represented students

  • Social justice champion committed to promoting educational opportunity for all students and families

  • Entrepreneurial spirit who thrives in a workplace characterized by autonomy, flexibility, transparency and accountability

  • Collaborative team player who works well with others from diverse backgrounds, uplifts and celebrates our teammates and engages in healthy debate and feedback to get the best results for students and families

  • Resourceful, persistent learner with a growth mindset, constantly seeking to find a way or make one to master your craft and improve results.

We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree, required

  • A California Single Subject Teaching Credential or Out of State Teaching Credential, preferred; clear path to receiving a teaching credential within a year, required

  • 2+ years of teaching experience in a relevant subject area with a strong record of improving student learning, strongly preferred

  • Significant content expertise in biological sciences, required

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences (including colleagues, students, families), required

We're Committed To Giving You

  • A competitive and transparent salary ($70,250-$120,019, depending on background and experience)

  • Medical, dental and vision coverage - including a fully-paid medical and dental option for employees and their families - and flexible spending account options

  • Paid family leave, short-term disability and life insurance benefits

  • Fitness and entertainment discounts

  • Generous paid time off and holidays

  • 403b retirement savings plan, with company matching up to 3%

  • A place to grow, learn and be a part of the Ednovate family

We Believe in Inclusion

We aim to intentionally develop a schoolwide culture in which every student and teammate feels a sense of belonging.
