Posting Number 201201536P Position Title Full-Time Faculty, Biological Sciences (Molecular Biology and Genetics) Open Rank Department School of the Sciences: Biological Sciences Position Summary
The Full-Time Faculty Member, Biological Sciences, is a 9-month campus-based full-time faculty member in the School of the Sciences (SOS), with responsibilities for teaching, student advising and mentoring, course coordination, service to the university and department, and scholarship in a field of biology. Teaching responsibilities include 24-30 contact hours per academic year as commensurate with rank and will include teaching genetics and molecular biology courses and 100-level general biology courses. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, student recruitment and retention; program assessment; and engagement in the life of the university. The Biology faculty member fulfills all responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as defined in the Stevenson University Policies and the SOS Full-Time Faculty Job Description. Rank and title are determined at the time of hire and will be commensurate with education and experience.
Education/Experience
Doctorate degree in a biological science or related field with at least two years of experience teaching college-level genetics, molecular biology, and/or introductory biology courses, a strong commitment to quality teaching and maintaining an active research program with undergraduates, or equivalent combination of education and experience are required for the rank of Assistant Professor or higher; A minimum of a Master's degree in a biological science or related field with relevant college-level teaching experience is required for the rank of Lecturer. Knowledge of and ability to teach bioinformatics and genomics is preferred.

Physical Requirements
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Daily work with computers, monitors, copy machines and other office equipment is required. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Science faculty work in science laboratories and will be exposed to chemicals, biologicals, chemical processes, magnetic field, and scientific equipment/instrumentation. Position requires additional hours for meetings and events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
Essential Functions
Instructional Activity
  • Teach 24-30 contact hours per academic year as assigned, commensurate with rank.
  • Prepare courses in accordance with published faculty workload guidelines.
  • Serve as Course Coordinator for course(s) in the department as requested.
  • Provide feedback to students via assignments and exams graded in a timely manner.
  • Meet with students as related to instructional activity, including holding regular office hours.
  • Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly.
  • Engage in continuing professional development related to the field and pedagogical best practices.
  • Participate in the assessment activities of the Department, School, and University.

Scholarly Activity
  • Maintain scholarly activities appropriate to the rank that engage undergraduate students and contribute to the profession through publications or presentations
  • Attend professional conferences, workshops, or meetings to maintain currency in area of scholarly or academic interest.
  • Pursue internal and external funding to support scholarly activity.
Service Activity
  • Advise students, including meeting with students to discuss academic, curricular and career matters.
  • Participate in University service, including service on the Faculty Council, school and department committees.
  • Attend all Faculty/Staff University, Department, and School meetings.
  • Engage and participate in the life and work of the departments, School of the Sciences, and Stevenson University.
