Job description

About Eastern Glass and Aluminum
Welcome to Eastern Glass and Aluminum, Inc (EGA), a premier building envelope contractor at the forefront of the construction industry. We specialize in providing innovative solutions for architectural glazing, roofing, and siding that define the skyline of tomorrow. Our commitment to excellence and craftsmanship has positioned us as a leader in delivering iconic structures nationwide.
Description:
The BIM & Drafting Coordinator is a hands-on technical professional responsible for producing shop drawings, developing and maintaining BIM models, coordinating EGA's scope with other project disciplines, and supporting projects from initial design development through field installation.
This role actively performs drafting and BIM work, including shop drawing production, model development, clash detection, technical coordination, drawing revisions, and resolution of constructability issues. The BIM & Drafting Coordinator works closely with Project Managers, General Contractors, design professionals, field personnel, and other trades to ensure EGA's work is accurate, coordinated, constructible, and delivered in accordance with project schedules.
The BIM & Drafting Coordinator is expected to understand how project information flows from contract documents and coordinated models into shop drawings and field installation. The role serves as a key technical connection between design, project management, BIM coordination, and field operations.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Shop Drawing Production:
  • Produce accurate and detailed shop drawings based on architectural drawings, structural drawings, specifications, approved submittals, project requirements, and coordinated models.
  • Develop plans, elevations, sections, details, panel layouts, attachment details, and other drawings required for approval and installation.
  • Revise and update drawings based on submittal comments, RFIs, ASIs, coordination requirements, field conditions, and authorized project changes.
  • Ensure shop drawings clearly communicate dimensions, materials, installation requirements, interfaces, and project requirements.
  • Maintain drawing accuracy and consistency throughout the project.
  • Manage assigned drafting workload and complete deliverables in accordance with project schedules and priorities.
  • BIM Modeling & Model Development:
  • Develop, maintain, and update BIM models for EGA's scope of work.
  • Model exterior building envelope systems and related components to the level of detail required for project coordination, shop drawing development, and installation.
  • Ensure models accurately reflect contract requirements, approved submittals, design changes, coordination decisions, and verified field conditions.
  • Maintain consistency between BIM models, shop drawings, and field installation requirements.
  • Update models based on RFIs, ASIs, submittal responses, coordination decisions, and other approved project changes.
  • Produce model-based views, details, dimensions, quantities, and other information needed to support project execution.

BIM Coordination & Clash Detection:
  • Participate directly in project BIM coordination.
  • Review federated and coordination models to identify conflicts involving EGA's scope.
  • Perform clash detection and investigate coordination issues with structural systems, roofing, waterproofing, windows, curtain walls, MEP systems, miscellaneous metals, and other adjacent construction.
  • Develop practical solutions to identified clashes and coordination issues.
  • Coordinate proposed solutions with Project Managers, General Contractors, design teams, other trades, and field teams as required.
  • Attend BIM and technical coordination meetings when required.
  • Track assigned clashes and coordination issues through resolution.
  • Incorporate approved coordination decisions into BIM models, shop drawings, and installation documents.
  • Verify that resolved clashes do not create new conflicts with other systems or installation requirements.
  • Technical Review & Constructability:
  • Review architectural drawings, structural drawings, specifications, details, and related trade information to understand project requirements.
  • Identify missing information, dimensional conflicts, design inconsistencies, and constructability concerns.
  • Review how EGA's systems interface with adjacent construction.
  • Evaluate panelization, attachment conditions, tolerances, installation sequencing, access, and field conditions.
  • Work with Project Managers to identify information requiring RFIs, design clarification, or coordination with other project stakeholders.
  • Develop technical solutions that are practical for field installation.
  • Verify that technical solutions are properly incorporated into project drawings and models.
  • Project Coordination:
  • Serve as a technical resource to Project Managers regarding drawings, BIM models, details, constructability, coordination issues, and technical requirements.
  • Coordinate directly with Project Managers to establish drafting and BIM priorities based on project schedules.
  • Communicate technical issues and potential delays before they affect project coordination or field installation.
  • Coordinate with field personnel to resolve technical questions, dimensional discrepancies, installation conflicts, and field conditions.
  • Communicate approved technical changes to affected team members.
  • Ensure drafting and BIM deliverables support project schedules and installation sequencing.
  • Drawing & Model Quality Control:
  • Perform quality-control reviews of assigned drawings and models before submission or release.
  • Verify drawings and models against contract documents, approved submittals, project requirements, and EGA standards.
  • Check dimensions, materials, details, interfaces, model geometry, and coordination status for accuracy and completeness.
  • Verify consistency between drawings, models, project requirements, and field installation conditions.
  • Identify and correct technical issues before they affect project coordination or installation.
  • Participate in peer reviews of drawings and models when requested.

Drafting & BIM Standards:
  • Follow and help maintain EGA's drafting and BIM standards.
  • Assist with developing and improving templates, standard details, model content, families, checklists, file structures, naming conventions, and technical libraries.
  • Apply consistent drafting and modeling methods across assigned projects.
  • Document lessons learned and recurring technical issues for future improvement.
  • Recommend improvements to drafting, BIM, coordination, and technical workflows.
  • Technical Support & Team Development:
  • Share technical knowledge with other drafters and team members.
  • Assist with training team members on drafting standards, BIM processes, software, installation systems, and technical requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and support when requested.
  • Help identify recurring errors and develop methods to improve drawing and model quality.
  • Support a culture of accuracy, accountability, coordination, and continuous improvement.
  • Field & Installation Support:
