Familiarity with frameworks (such as Django, Spring, or Express), cloud services (like AWS or Azure), and version control systems (e.g., Git) is typically expected. Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong communication, and the ability to quickly adapt to new codebases and team environments set top contractors apart. Contract Backend Developers often encounter challenges such as quickly understanding existing codebases, adapting to different tech stacks, and aligning with the team's development practices. What is a contract backend developer?

Contract backend developers are professionals hired on a temporary or project basis to build and maintain the server-side logic, databases, and APIs that power web or mobile applications. They work behind the scenes to ensure that applications function smoothly, handle data efficiently, and communicate effectively with front-end systems. Unlike full-time employees, contract backend developers typically work for a set duration or on specific projects, offering flexibility to both clients and developers. They often bring specialized expertise in programming languages such as Python, Java, Node.js, or Ruby, and may work remotely or on-site depending on the contract terms.

Senior Recruiter (Contract)

Klaviyo

Job description

We are looking for a Technical Recruiter to join our Talent Acquisition team in a contract capacity. In this role, you will have the chance to build relationships with our engineering leaders and contribute to the hyper-growth of Klaviyo, influencing our product and culture tremendously through the exceptional engineers you bring into the company! You'll own your recruiting numbers (sourcing, screening, and hiring) and draw insights from analytics to make our hiring process smarter and more efficient.

How You Will Make a Difference:

  • Build pipelines of candidates: Our engineering org is consistently hiring across disciplines (backend, frontend, infrastructure, ML, and beyond), so a key aspect of this role is working with engineering hiring managers to develop strategies to find qualified, diverse technical candidates. You'll build talent networks through proactive market research, targeted outreach, and strong candidate experience.
  • Own the process: From sourcing passive engineering talent to closing offers, you will be responsible for providing all candidates with an exceptional experience and ensuring Klaviyo is engaging with and hiring the exceptional engineers who will help scale our product and platform.
  • Build relationships: Your empathy and customer-first approach will forge lasting relationships with both candidates and engineering hiring managers, and you'll act as a trusted advisor on technical hiring strategy.
  • Be an ambassador: Whether through Klaviyo's engineering blog, technical recruiting events, or LinkedIn/GitHub outreach, you are an ambassador for Klaviyo's engineering culture and, in most cases, the first impression a candidate will have of the company. You'll take a balanced approach that makes a candidate feel like an individual while keeping in mind Klaviyo's business and technical objectives.
  • AI fluency and adoption: Leverage AI tools and automation to streamline recruiting workflows, reduce administrative burden, and increase capacity to focus on high-impact technical hiring work.

Who You Are:

  • 7+ years of recruiting experience, with significant experience hiring within software engineering, infrastructure, or related technical disciplines
  • Strong sourcing expertise and passion for identifying passive technical talent, with the ability to assess technical resumes and career trajectories
  • Working knowledge of engineering roles, tech stacks, and terminology sufficient to credibly engage engineers and hiring managers on scope and leveling
  • Ability to influence and advise senior technical stakeholders on role scoping, leveling, and engineering talent market dynamics
  • Data-driven approach to managing pipelines and measuring recruiting performance
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, evolving environments
  • High level of ownership, accountability, and sound judgment
  • Ability to recognize the balance between business/engineering needs and providing a stellar candidate experience

Please note that this is a contract position based in our Boston office; this is an hourly role and will be paid through an external partner.
