Location: Los Angeles, CA (Structured Hybrid – Initially Remote, then 2–3 Days/Week Onsite)

About the Role
Green Dot Corporation is seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer to join its Retail Engineering Team and lead the development of highly scalable, secure, and resilient payment processing systems. This role is ideal for a technical leader who is passionate about designing enterprise-grade backend platforms, driving engineering excellence, and mentoring development teams.
As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing backend services, modern APIs, cloud-native applications, and DevOps automation while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, high-performing payment solutions that power some of America's leading technology companies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable backend services and RESTful APIs supporting Green Dot's Retail platform.
  • Architect and implement secure, high-performance microservices using .NET technologies.
  • Drive technical leadership across software development initiatives and engineering best practices.
  • Design and improve CI/CD pipelines, release engineering processes, and deployment automation.
  • Collaborate closely with QA, Infrastructure, Security, and Product teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Implement cloud-native solutions using Microsoft Azure and Kubernetes.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring, observability, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure platform reliability and SLA compliance.
  • Optimize system performance, scalability, availability, and resilience.
  • Ensure secure coding practices and compliance with PCI DSS, SOC 2, and other regulated industry standards.
  • Lead architectural discussions, code reviews, and technical design sessions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across engineering teams.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate functional requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and drive root cause analysis.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience leading engineering teams or serving in a technical lead capacity.
  • Strong backend development experience using:
    • C#
    • .NET / .NET Core
  • Strong experience developing RESTful APIs and Microservices.
  • Solid understanding of:
    • OAuth2
    • Secure API development
    • Authentication & Authorization
  • Strong experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience working with Azure Cosmos DB.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Event Hubs and Azure Service Bus.
  • Experience building cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience deploying applications using Kubernetes.
  • Strong understanding of containerization technologies.
  • Experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines using:
    • Jenkins
    • GitHub Actions

  • Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions using:

  • Experience working in regulated environments with:
