Level of responsibility is determined by your expertise, maintenance level experience, education, and overall avionics maintenance proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Perform organizational, intermediate, and limited depot-level maintenance on aircraft electrical and avionics systems, components, and equipment.
  • Inspect, test, and troubleshoot instruments, components, assemblies, and systems to identify discrepancies and verify proper functioning.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace malfunctioning components or assemblies to restore optimal system performance.
  • Install machine or equipment replacement parts and repair worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts associated with avionics systems.
  • Install electrical and electronic components, assemblies, and systems in accordance with engineering drawings and technical procedures.
  • Set up and operate ground support and test equipment to perform functional and flight tests of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Assemble electrical components, subsystems, and systems, ensuring proper configuration and integration.
  • Connect components to assemblies such as radio systems, instruments, magnetos, and inverters following wiring schematics and harness layouts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, wiring schematics, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications, and safety manuals.
  • Perform avionics modifications, including complex modification installs, harness builds, and system upgrades on aircraft.
  • Repair and replace faulty avionics components and wiring in accordance with maintenance standards and procedures.
  • Build and install wire harnesses and chassis, including crimping, soldering, and routing coax and ethernet cables through the aircraft.
  • Troubleshoot avionics systems at O-level and I-level, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
  • Confer and coordinate work activities with other technicians and maintenance teammates to ensure efficient workflow and high-quality results.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures and guidelines while working in hangar and backshop environments and when operating ground support equipment.
  • Support consistent and stable production schedules and, when needed, work additional hours to help the team meet program deadlines.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience performing complex avionics modification installs on aircraft platforms.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills for avionics systems at both organizational and intermediate maintenance levels.
  • Ability to use ground support and test equipment to conduct functional and flight tests of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Capability to assemble electrical components, subsystems, and systems and connect them to radio systems, instruments, magnetos, and inverters.
  • Comfort working from technical publications, test specifications, planning documents, and safety manuals in a maintenance environment.
