Summary:
The Staff Attorney will be responsible for contract negotiations and review, and collaboration
and support of internal stakeholders by providing legal advice on a wide array of legal, strategic,
operational, governance, business, regulatory, and litigation matters, while aligning with the
objectives of the organization
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and JD from an accredited law school; admitted and in good standing to practice law in New York required
  • Minimum three years relevant experience as a practicing attorney in New York, with experience negotiating contracts and representing financial institutions required
  • Comprehensive understanding of lending and real estate is desired
  • Exceptional ethical and professional integrity, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized with a strong sense of priority, urgency and commitment to deadlines
  • Driven and self-motivated with a strong desire for collaboration on complex and varied legal issues, while also possessing the ability to work independently
  • Ability to understand and interpret laws and regulations relevant to credit unions, banks, general business operations in the financial services industry, and various business organizations
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and advocacy skills
  • Excellent legal research and analysis skills required
  • M365 applications, Westlaw, and Lexis proficiency required

Job Responsibilities:
  • Reviews, revises, and negotiates contracts and other corporate policies and governance documents as requested by VP Legal Counsel
  • Researches and interprets existing laws and regulations and anticipated changes to laws to guide informed decisions and reduce risk
  • Performs research and provides legal advice in support of lending initiatives, retail and banking/financial services, regulatory compliance matters, litigation, BSA/AML, internal investigations, contract negotiations, and other legal guidance impacting the organization
  • Provides various litigation support
  • Represents the Legal Department in meetings, on projects and committees with various business units and stakeholders and assists in the preparation of status reports for the executive team
  • Creates and modernizes templates, presentations, letters, responses, releases, settlement documents, attestations, confidentiality agreements, resolutions, affidavits, and certificates and review updates to templates prior to implementation
  • *Performs other duties as needed upon request by immediate supervisor

The good faith range for this position is $120,750 - $150,750 per year. This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications and operational needs. The salary may vary above and below the stated amounts, as permitted by applicable law.
