Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST) is seeking a Content Marketing Intern to support our content team part-time (20-32 hours per week). The internship has a maximum duration of 1,000 hours and reports to the Senior Content Marketing Manager.
Responsibilities include reviewing and publishing web pages in WordPress, drafting written content, organizing digital assets, supporting SEO and content audits, and assisting with major communications, including projects related to our upcoming 50th Anniversary. As an environmental organization, there will also be opportunities to experience and enjoy the landscapes we protect firsthand.
POST is a hybrid workplace. While many responsibilities can be completed remotely, the Content Marketing Intern will occasionally visit preserves and participate in meetings or events at our Palo Alto office. As such, candidates must live in the Bay Area and possess a valid driver's license.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience with a nationally recognized land conservation organization while developing practical skills in website publishing, content strategy, digital asset management, SEO, analytics, and nonprofit communications. You'll leave POST with a deeper understanding of conservation storytelling and hands-on experience supporting a collaborative, digitally focused marketing team.
This role supports the following areas of work:
Website Updates & Maintenance
  • Support the launch of POST's new website, including ongoing maintenance, updates, and quality assurance
  • Review migrated WordPress pages for formatting issues, broken elements, and content errors; edit as needed
  • Use WordPress to build and format new web pages for review and publication
  • Ensure website metadata, tags, and page settings are accurate to support navigation, content feeds, and SEO
  • Fact-check, proofread, and edit website content and other marketing materials and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Curate and edit visuals for the website including photos, b-roll, and other design elements

Content Creation & Strategy
  • Research and draft copy for blog posts, hiking pages, email series, and other content projects
  • Support organizational communications by updating and maintaining presentations in PowerPoint, Google Slides, and Canva
  • Help gather website and content performance metrics to inform content strategy
  • Proofread publications, including our Landscapes magazine, Impact Report, and other major communications
  • Support special projects, including POST's 50th Anniversary initiatives
  • Participate in content strategy, marketing, and team meetings

Tracking & Inventory
  • Maintain content inventories, editorial calendars, and webpage tracking documents
  • Organize and tag photos and other digital assets in Bynder
  • Organize and maintain video files in Box and other storage systems
For the best opportunity to succeed in this role, you would have:
  • Excellent attention to detail, particularly for editing, proofreading, quality assurance, and fact-checking
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with-or the ability to quickly learn-digital tools such as WordPress, digital asset management systems (i.e., Bynder), Box, Google Analytics, and other marketing platforms
  • Basic photo editing skills (Photoshop or similar); experience with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Interest in web content management, SEO, and digital publishing best practices
  • Interest in learning about content marketing and nonprofit communications
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a cross-functional team
  • An interest in the outdoors, conservation, environmental science, or connecting people with nature

This job has the following physical requirements
  • Regular and accurate communication with others, and the ability to complete tasks using a phone, email, web, and video technology
  • The ability to interact effectively with digital and printed materials and operate required job-related equipment
  • The ability to drive to remote locations, a valid California driver's license, and an insurable driving record
  • Ability to hike uneven terrain and to tolerate exposure to varying weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. of equipment and supplies in the office or the field
  • Reasonable accommodations will be made to allow a person to perform essential functions

If you would like to apply:
Please submit your resume with a cover letter explaining your interest in POST and your dates of availability. Make sure to address any pertinent experience, including professional and personal experience, that is relevant to this position.
Pay and benefits:
This is a temporary position and carries no discretionary benefits except for state mandated sick leave. Exact timing and scheduling can be flexible to accommodate the appropriate candidate. Pay is $25.00 per hour. POST's office is located in downtown Palo Alto near public transportation, and we will provide a Caltrain Go Pass if needed.
