Springer Publishing is a leading healthcare education and exam prep company, committed to advancing people, ideas, and careers in nursing, advanced practice nursing, social work, and behavioral and health sciences. We are seeking a quality-minded content professional to develop and enhance content across formats and disciplines.


Springer Publishing Company seeks a quality-focused and results-oriented content development professional with 3 to 5 years’ experience, strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills; content/technical know-how; and effective communication skills. This individual will demonstrate an understanding of print and digital publishing processes, an eye for detail, and experience with the development of various content sets (e.g., digital products, textbooks/referential content, assessment items, instructor/student ancillaries).

Job Purpose:

The Content Development Editor will closely collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to create products that effectively address market needs. The successful candidate will help take products from concept to launch, focusing on timely delivery, product quality, and positive user experience. The Content Development Editor will be responsible for analyzing, reviewing, and editing digital and print content; managing editors, authors, writers, subject matter experts, and other external vendors; managing and tracking projects; monitoring budgets; and delivering high-quality and complete material for production and publication.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define product vision and project plan to ensure that content meets internal and market standards and addresses the unique needs of students and professionals.
  • Serve as project manager for multiple assigned projects by setting and negotiating timelines and establishing clear expectations for project participants.
  • Serve as assigned content development editor for concurrent projects at various stages and in various formats, including audio/video course content, assessment items, review content, and didactic material.
  • Provide author/editor support to ensure project completion and content success; demonstrate strong customer service skills and professionalism in all communication.
  • Build productive and efficient rapport with editors, authors, SMEs, and reviewers to motivate, maintain engagement, and guide action.
  • Closely review all components of content to ensure template and guideline adherence.
  • Ensure highest levels of quality and consistency in content by practicing error-elimination strategies, applying established standards, flagging deviations for resolution, and confidently signing off on quality prior to content acceptance, handoff, and release; engage in AI-assisted content refinement and generation as required.
  • Provide informed intervention on content to improve its quality and completeness by closely assessing submitted material, enhancing content for utility, and leveraging input from authors.
  • Manage all stages of the development process for digital/print/video content by setting clear objectives/timelines and maintaining schedules that account for interdependencies to release high-quality products to market on time, within scope, and on or under budget.
  • Complete quality assurance assessment for digital products (e.g., courseware, SCORM) as required.
  • Perform content development within content management system(s) as required.
  • Utilize impeccable organizational skills and clear communication to drive decision-making and progress throughout product development lifecycle.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate accounting of project status and content elements to monitor project size and associated costs.
  • Provide regular reporting to key stakeholders on project status identifying risks, shortfalls, and opportunities for acceleration.
  • Thoughtfully adjust communication and project management strategies as needed to steer projects toward the clearest path to completion.
  • Adhere to development process and propose new workflows as needed.
  • Work cooperatively within team and across organization, collaborating effectively to adhere to defined plan for each assigned project.
  • Develop content for digital-forward delivery, in accordance with platform capabilities.
  • Act as a mentor to Assistant Editors to ensure development process is uniform across SPC.
  • Travel to meetings and conferences to meet with editors/authors as required.


Qualifications:

  • B.S. or B.A. degree or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of content development experience; 3 to 5 years of total editorial experience, ideally in nursing or other healthcare professions
  • Understanding of publishing processes and functions (e.g., editorial, production, design, and copyediting)
  • Strong editorial and project management skills
  • Demonstrated quality assessment and assurance skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and meet established deadlines
  • Ability to build partnerships and communicate effectively with internal/external stakeholders
  • Collaborative, creative, and innovative problem-solver
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accountability and personal urgency
  • Critical thinker and thoughtful decision maker
  • Experience with content management system(s), digital content development, and accessibility standards

Physical Requirements:

  • Travel to corporate headquarters (Princeton) as required
  • Travel to approximately 2 to 3 conferences/external meetings per year
