Job description

Coastal Pacific Food Distributors (CPFD) has a Full-time, Yard Checker position available in Stockton, Transportation Department. This person will be responsible for monitoring and verifying the location, condition, and status of trailers, containers, chassis, and other yard equipment. This role supports safe and efficient yard operations by maintaining accurate records, performing routine yard checks, and coordinating with warehouse, dispatch, and transportation teams.
Rate of Pay:
  • Starting rate is $24.00/hr.
  • Yearly annual increases every January

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine yard checks to verify trailer, container, and equipment locations.
  • Inspect units for visible damage, seal status, cleanliness, and safety concerns.
  • Record trailer numbers, locations, load status, and movement updates accurately.
  • Maintain accurate yard inventory records, including equipment availability and pallet counts.
  • Update yard logs, spreadsheets, and yard or traffic management systems in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with dispatch, warehouse staff, drivers, and yard personnel regarding equipment status and movement needs.
  • Coordinate shipping activities with logistics, scheduling, and maintenance to support operational requirements.
  • Assist with coordinating dock assignments, trailer staging, and daily transportation operations as needed.
  • Use Excel, Word, DSS, Motive and traffic management systems to track operations and maintain records.
  • Report discrepancies, missing equipment, safety hazards, or damaged units to supervisors and keep management informed of operational issues and progress.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities, recommend practical solutions, and support implementation of operational changes.
  • Follow company safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment at all times.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in warehouse, transportation, logistics, or yard operations preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, including data entry, email, spreadsheets, and operational tracking systems.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and collaborate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of yard, warehouse, and transportation safety procedures.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk the yard for extended periods.
