Job Title: Unloader
Department: Production
Reporting Supervisor: Production Supervisor
Job Purpose:
The purpose of this position is to sort and distribute incoming merchandise to specified sorters to supplement the stores productivity and increase sales.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Description
1. Unloading: Tally every full donation "container" with a supervisor before starting to unload. The unloader sets the pace for the entire production process, and must be able to unload quickly. Must work well with the Back Up to ensure the flow continues, by letting him/her know ahead of time when things are needed. Pulls boxes and bags from carts, melon boxes and other containers, opening them and removing the items. Separates all saleable items from trash. The unloader should only throw away items that are obviously damaged. If an item is debatable (possibility worth selling) always send it to the sorter. Items which are not saleable are placed into the trash or into a hamper for baling.
2. Processing: Pushes the processed, saleable items to the appropriate sorter or places item into a bin at the workstation. It is the unloaders responsibility to give the sorter as much variety as possible. The unloader is responsible to meet timelines and production goals and standards.
3. Workstation: Maintains cleanliness and organization of the work area for safety and the most efficient production possible. Ensures full carts are in place. Works with the Back Up to replace empty carts, other containers and remove trash. Has ability to observe the production process and to communicate with the supervisor, sorters and Back Up to ensure the flow of product is moving quickly.
4. Safety: It is the responsibility of all employees of arc to provide a hazard-free environment. Pick up loose items on the floor quickly; clean up breakages or spills; provide help as needed to other employees and take the responsibility to report hazards to a supervisor. All employees are required to read the arc safety policy, sign the document acknowledging the understanding of it and to practice it.
5. Other duties and responsibilities: Ability to work as a productive member of a team. Must have good communication skills. Employee may be required to perform other job-related duties as requested by their supervisor or manager.
6. Working environment and physical activities: Works inside a production environment. There is exposure to temperature fluctuations. Exposure to dust and debris from donations is ongoing/continual. During the work shift, the employee is walking or standing 100% of the time. Must be able to reach above shoulder height. Must have eye-hand coordination. Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to push donation racks weighing up to 400 lbs. Must be able to move up to 500 lbs. with the aid of a pallet jack or dolly. Must be able to bend and crouch. There is repetitive use of hands. Must be able to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for the entire work shift. Must be flexible with scheduling changes due to store needs. May require overtime from time to time due to store needs.
