Overview

Salary Range $22.00 - $22.00 Hourly

Description

The Loader transloads liquid/dry bulk products daily for rail-to-truck liquid and dry bulk hazardous/non-hazardous chemical transloading operations. Other responsibilities include maintaining facilities, developing a parts and tool inventory, and assisting with other cleanup/housekeeping duties.

Major Responsibilities

Facilitate the loading/unloading of liquid and dry bulk from railcar into tank trucks/shipping containers. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Heating railcars and truck trailers
  • Loading/Offloading railcars/tank trailers
  • Railcar inspections
  • Equipment & terminal maintenance

Complete loads accurately and on schedule. Operate the following equipment, at a minimum:

  • Pickup trucks
  • Boilers
  • Compressors
  • Air dryers
  • DI water systems
  • Pumps
  • Meters
  • Certified truck scales

Maintain inventory of fittings and other loading equipment. Use various measuring equipment for loading accurate volumes. Follow all SOPs and work order instructions to make sure loads are completed correctly and safely without contamination, spill, or other incidents. Operates safely and adheres to mandatory PPE requirements. Read and interpret paperwork accurately. Communicate work schedules with other departments. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

High School Diploma. Must be comfortable handling hazardous chemicals and not afraid of heights. Must be able to understand mechanical processes, diagnose and solve problems. Required skills include the ability to adequately communicate with coworkers and supervisory staff. Able to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing. Extremely accurate and detail oriented. Does not overlook things and make errors. Able to read and interpret complex paperwork and other data, such as chemical names, order numbers, and rail car numbers. Doesn’t forget things. Able to multi-task, tracking several activities at once. Able to handle shifting priorities and constantly changing conditions. Able to work effectively on flexible and varying work schedules. Team player. Able to get along well with coworkers, drivers, and supervisors. Able to settle disagreements professionally and productively. Operates with a Safety Orientation. Uses all protective equipment all the time, follows SOPs, and manages risks so that incidents are prevented. High energy level and high level of initiative. Takes the lead in making improvements to the operation and in getting things fixed as they break down. Mechanical ability able to perform basic repairs on boilers, compressors, valves, and other equipment. Able to safely use basic hand tools. Trustworthy, honest, reliable. Able to operate autonomously for long periods of time with minimal contact with supervisors. Can be counted on to show up for work every day and take full responsibility for the operation. Must possess a valid Class C Drivers license and a driving record without an excessive number of accidents and/or convictions for moving violations. Must be insurable to operate company vehicles. Successful work experience demonstrating a strong work ethic. Must be self-motivated with good critical thinking, deductive reasoning, and decision-making skills. Must be organized.

Physical Requirements

Able to lift and carry heavy hoses, fittings, and other equipment weighing up to 100 pounds. Able to crawl underneath and climb on top of railcars, containers, and tank trailers. Able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Must be able to walk, bend, reach, push, pull, stoop, squat, and climb, as necessary to perform vehicle inspections and load/unload cargo. Able to connect heavy 20 ft long chemical hoses underneath and on top of railcars. This often requires lifting and pulling while in an awkward body position. Able to operate valves that may be difficult to open of close. Must pass a pulmonary function test (PFT). Able to work outdoors and tolerate extreme weather conditions such as rain, heat, or cold.
