The Material Handler plays a critical role in supporting safe, efficient, and compliant operations within a chemical manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for the movement, storage, tracking, and staging of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products while adhering to strict safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Handling & Logistics
  • Receive, unload, and verify incoming raw materials, chemicals, and packaging components.
  • Safely transport materials throughout the facility using forklifts, pallet jacks, drum handlers, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Stage and prepare materials for shipping according to batch requirements and production schedules.
  • Load and secure outgoing shipments following DOT, OSHA, and internal guidelines.

Inventory Management
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts through cycle counts, labeling, and proper storage practices.
  • Update inventory systems (ERP or warehouse management software) to reflect material movements.
  • Identify and report discrepancies, damaged goods, or expired materials.

Safety & Compliance
  • Handle hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and facility-specific safety procedures.
  • Use appropriate PPE and follow all chemical-handling protocols, including spill response and containment.
  • Ensure proper segregation, labeling, and storage of chemicals to prevent cross-contamination or unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in safety audits, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Operational Support
  • Assist with logistics operations by picking orders and supporting material flow.
  • Prepare drums, totes, bags, and containers for shipping, filling, or disposal.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of warehouses, staging areas, and chemical storage zones.
  • Operate filling lines and document weights for materials as required.

Qualifications:
Required
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in warehousing, logistics, or material handling.
• Ability to operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
• Basic computer skills for inventory and professional communication via email.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in environments involving heat, noise, and safe chemical handling.
Preferred
• Experience in chemical manufacturing or other regulated industries.
• Knowledge of hazardous materials handling (HAZMAT), SDS interpretation, and chemical storage requirements.
• Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP).
