Job description

Job Title: Consumer Loan Manager

Department: Consumer Lending 

FLSA: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Consumer Lending

Approved: 8.12.26

Summary

The Consumer Loan Manager will be directly responsible for loan origination and elevating the member experience within our consumer loan area that includes auto lending (direct and indirect), personal loans, credit cards, real estate equity loans, and business loans while assisting the Director of Consumer Lending in managing the real estate lending program. Primary duties include growing the consumer loan portfolio and creating a frictionless member experience while achieving operational excellence in all facets of the loan cycle. The ideal candidate will be a proven leader who is willing to roll up their sleeves and assist their teams as needed. They will motivate employees to promote high levels of service and sales that best meet members’ financial needs while fulfilling the strategic goals of the credit union. Additional responsibilities include monitoring underwriting guidelines, utilizing technology to enhance loan operations, ensuring consumer loan goals are met in a compliant manner, and assisting in the development of lending policies and procedures. 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Manage all consumer loan processes and lending systems.
  • Perform loan underwriting and oversee credit decisions to ensure consistent application of lending guidelines.
  • Hire, train, and develop consumer loan department staff.
  • Monitor performance, coach, and conduct employee reviews.
  • Maintain compliance in all aspects of the consumer loan cycle.
  • Coordinate with other departments and managers at the Credit Union.
  • Assist CLO and Director of Consumer Lending during loan audits and NCUA exams.
  • Monitor and improve lending processes.
  • Assist Director of Consumer Lending with loan data management, CDFI reporting, and CECL controls.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Abilities

Position Specific 

  • High sales aptitude.
  • Knowledge of and ability to communicate lending products.
  • The ability to maintain and foster positive relationships with our members, vendors, and other employees and departments at the credit union.
  • Underwriting experience. 
  • Ability to conduct needs assessments, identify problems, develop solutions and take appropriate course of action.
  • PC skills (Microsoft Office Products) and Symitar core processing systems.
  • Ability to manage a wide range of tasks in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise good judgment.

  • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment, which may include frequent interruptions.
  • Excellent computer skills, such as Microsoft Office Suite, including AI, with the ability to learn new software.

Education, Experience & Certifications

  • Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years in a management role with experience in consumer lending is required.
  • Must maintain and active NMLS registration.
