Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Senior Antenna Engineer at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and project planning for complex antenna designs for products that are new for Garmin.
Essential Functions
  • Leads antenna design/development efforts for product that involve complicated assembly
  • Capable of designing naturally resonant (or with matching network) multiband antennas
  • Familiar with integrating switch, tunable capacitor/inductor etc. with antenna for resonating at multiple frequency bands
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if the proposed antenna design meets functional and performance specifications
  • Works closely with Software Engineering to integrate interfaced components and partners with Mechanical Engineers to provide feedback of antenna design needs in mechanical assembly
  • Teams with Industrial Design from early on to exchange ideas and assess antenna implementation feasibility
  • Collaborates and adds value through participation in design reviews, providing comments on antenna design aspects and other engineering areas
  • Evaluates new antenna manufacturing technologies as they apply to existing designs
  • Participates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents
  • Makes substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility
  • Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced Antenna Engineers
  • Contributes to advanced technical research on new antenna ideas and enhance Garmin's Intellectual Property
  • Directs/coordinates manufacture of prototypes and participates in recruiting activities as assigned

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years of industry experience in antenna design for consumer electronics OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on antennas and electromagnetics AND a minimum of 3 years of industry experience in antenna design for consumer electronics OR Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on antennas and electromagnetics AND 1 year of industry experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability with application of design standards and procedures to develop moderately complex antenna designs including simulations, prototyping and evaluation

Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Extensive circuit design experience for consumer or aviation products
