Join us-and be part of something built to last.Briefly explain job detailsCMT Technical Services is seeking an experienced Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to support large, complex construction projects throughout the Salt Lake City, Utah region. This role requires advanced knowledge of welding inspection, structural steel observation, construction documentation, and applicable building codes and standards. The CWI may also provide leadership and oversight to other inspection and testing personnel as needed.Compensation: $30-35/hour (DOE)Location: Salt Lake City, UtahFLSA Exemption: ExemptSchedule: Hours may vary based on project demandsWhat you'll be doing:Perform welding inspection, testing, and observation in accordance with project specifications, AWS standards, and applicable building codesVerify construction work complies with contract documents, approved procedures, and jurisdictional requirementsRead and interpret structural drawings, welding symbols, and project specificationsProvide clear documentation of observations, findings, and inspection resultsPrepare detailed inspection reports, including identification of nonconforming conditionsPerform basic review and analysis of inspection data prior to submittal to Project Managers, clients, contractors, or agenciesCommunicate effectively with project teams regarding inspection findings and corrective actionsAssist Project Managers in developing scopes of work for welding and special inspection servicesCoordinate pre-dispatch activities with Project, Department, and Office ManagersMaintain inspection equipment, tools, and calibration requirementsLead and provide direction to other inspectors and technicians on an as-needed basisSupport advanced fieldwork and assist with project execution and client coordinationFollow all CMT safety policies and perform pre-task planning prior to field activitiesMaintain CMT quality standards on all assigned projectsWhat you have:High school diploma or equivalent requiredAssociate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering Technology preferredMinimum 4–6 years of experience in construction inspection, welding inspection, or structural steel inspectionValid driver's license with acceptable driving recordAuthorization to work in the United StatesStrong knowledge of welding procedures, inspection methods, and construction documentationExcellent written and verbal communication skillsWhat will make you stand out:Experience supporting UDOT transportation or bridge projects in UtahStrong familiarity with AWS D1.1 structural welding codeAbility to mentor junior inspectors and lead field teamsAdditional special inspection or nondestructive testing certificationsProven ability to work independently on complex commercial and infrastructure projectsPreferred Certification(s):Required:American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)Preferred:ICC Structural Steel & Bolting Special InspectorICC Structural Steel & Welding Special InspectorAdditional ICC Special Inspector certifications (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Fireproofing, etc.)ASNT Level II certifications in one or more of the following:Visual Testing (VT)Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)Ultrasonic Testing (UT)Radiographic Testing (RT)NACE Coating Inspector certification (a plus for industrial or pipeline-related work)Other nationally recognized materials-related certifications will be considered if deemed appropriate by CMT management.CMT Technical Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
