Job description

Spence Brothers, a General Contractor and Construction Manager, is looking to fill a Construction Superintendent position to service our mid-Michigan market, based out of our Saginaw office.


The Construction Superintendent will be comfortable overseeing the entire operation of the construction site. They should be able to determine and address any risk areas to maintain the safety of workers. The Construction Superintendent should be experienced in communicating project milestones with clients and other parties and be able to establish a timeline for completion.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Construction Superintendent is responsible for overall construction job site coordination and management.
  • The Construction Superintendent will provide daily leadership and direction to Spence Brothers and sub-contractors.
  • The Construction Superintendent will ensure quality, cost, schedule and client satisfaction goals are being met.
  • Act as a safety champion on all projects and lead by example by ensuring safety, compliance and quality regulations are followed. Report when workers are not following company safety procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain records and provide the Project Manager updates regarding changes in scope and schedule.
  • The Construction Superintendent will work closely with the Project Manager to ensure successful project completion.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Coordinate construction projects for the delivery of General Contracting/Construction Management projects.
  • Manage and coordinate manpower for both self-performed and subcontracted trade work.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of experience supervising commercial construction
  • Experience in managing projects that exceed $5 million in value
  • Understanding of construction management processes
  • Proficiency in reading and comprehending blueprints, building plans, schematics, specifications, and contractor scopes of work
  • Excellent communication, organization, interpersonal and supervisory skills are critical to the success of the construction superintendent
  • Expert problem solving and planning skills are imperative
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook
  • Experience with construction management software such as ProCore and Bluebeam
  • OSHA certification preferred

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Perform a great deal of reaching, bending, balancing, kneeling, crawling, turning & twisting (180 degrees)
  • Perform considerable climbing, lifting, carrying
  • Able to walk, sit, stand and bend
  • May need to traverse uneven ground
  • Able to use hand to finger, reach with hands and arms, handle to feel objects or tools, be able to climb ladders, scaffolding and forms
  • Able to talk, listen, hear and see
  • Lift 50 to 80 lbs as necessary, possibly several times daily
  • Work in weather conditions common to this area including heat, cold, rain and snow
  • May work in seated or standing positions for prolonged periods of time, perform sustained manual activities at low to moderate levels of exertion
