Job Description This position collaborates with a team of experienced engineers at EGLE to resolve complex issues. The surface water treatment engineer assists with performing sanitary surveys, surveillance visits, and reviewing plans, specifications, and permit applications for community water supplies which have treatment plants subject to the Surface Water Treatment Rules. The surface water treatment engineer also assists with reviewing monthly operation reports and serves as a contact for communities subject to the Surface Water Treatment Rules.

Reviewing the construction plans and specifications for a conventional water treatment plant rehabilitation project. Helping operators develop tools to calculate daily water plant disinfection. Helping operators identify, troubleshoot, and correct turbidity data anomalies.

Contributing to a team of professionals in charge of responding to water system emergencies. Environmental Engineer 9-P11: The surface water engineer performs engineering review and surveillance of public water supplies as defined by the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act (Act 399, PA 1976, as amended) for surface water systems. The activities consist of, or are related to, evaluation, construction, and surveillance and monitoring of surface water treatment for these public water supplies.

The surface water engineer also performs the first-line engineering review of construction permit applications and supporting documentation. The following duties are to be assigned to Genesee, Lapeer, Gratiot, Isabella, Saginaw, Sanilac, Midland, Bay, Arenac, Iosco, Alpena, Mackinac, Chippewa, Schoolcraft, Delta, Menominee, Marquette, Baraga and Ontonagon Counties. Position Description - Env Engineer 9-P11 Environmental Engineer Licensed 12: This position functions as the recognized resource for the engineering review and issuance of construction permits for all surface water treatment plants for a specified geographic area (Genesee, Lapeer, Gratiot, Isabella, Saginaw, Sanilac, Midland, Bay, Arenac, Iosco, Alpena, Mackinac, Chippewa, Schoolcraft, Delta, Menominee, Marquette, Baraga and Ontonagon counties).

This position will also be responsible for reviewing technical documents and analyzing technical data related to surface water systems. Position Description - Env Engineer Lcnd 12 The work location of this position will be either the Bay City, Cadillac, Gaylord, or Marquette District Office, depending on the selected candidate. However, the selected candidate may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule (combination of remote and in-person) or a fully remote work schedule (with occasional travel to their official work location).

Employees approved for schedules that include remote work must complete that work within Michigan. Relocation expenses are not reimbursed. When working remote, employees must use a designated workspace that is safe and professionally appropriate, allows for privacy, minimizes distractions, and includes secure internet access.

Details regarding work location and schedule options for this position may be discussed during the interview process. Required Education and Experience Education Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering. Experience Environmental Engineer 9: No specific type or amount is required.

Environmental Engineer 10: One year of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer 9. Environmental Engineer P11: Two years of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health, or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer, including one year equivalent to Environmental Engineer 10. Environmental Engineer Licensed Engineer 12: Three years of professional environmental engineering experience in the protection and improvement of land and water resources, occupational health or air quality equivalent to an Environmental Engineer, including one year equivalent to an Environmental Engineer P11.

Additional Requirements and Information NOTE: Possession of a registered professional engineer license as required by the State of Michigan for the Environmental Engineer Licensed 12 level.
