Job description

Tri-City Group is seeking a Field Layout/Locating Technician for Davenport, IA. The Field Layout/Locating Technician supports Tri-City Electric's Field Technology team by providing construction layout, locating, and using robotic total stations, GPS equipment, and 3D scanners. This role translates digital project designs into accurate field layouts and works closely with project teams to support quality, efficiency, and successful project execution.
Main Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform construction layout and point staking using robotic total stations, GPS equipment, and digital project models
  • Utilize AutoCAD drawings and other project documents to establish accurate field layout locations
  • Operate 3D scanning equipment to capture existing conditions and as-built information
  • Import, export, and manage point files and layout data between field equipment and design software
  • Verify layout accuracy and communicate discrepancies to project teams and field leadership
  • Set up, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot field technology equipment
  • Coordinate with project managers, foremen, and field personnel to prioritize and execute layout activities
  • Maintain accurate records of layout work, scans, equipment usage, and project documentation
  • Follow all company safety policies and jobsite requirements while working in active construction environments
  • Travel to project sites as needed to support layout, locating, and scanning activities across multiple locations
  • Support continuous improvement of field technology processes, standards, and workflows
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Travel: The role requires frequent travel to project sites. Daily travel and overnight travel throughout the week may be required based on project assignments within the Midwest.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Prior experience with construction layout, surveying, or related field technology applications
  • Experience operating robotic total stations, GPS locating equipment, or 3D scanning technology (Hilti and/or Trimble preferred)
  • OSHA 10 - Required
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and construction drawings
  • Electrical construction background or related trade experience
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications
