Construction Inspector Jobs in Midland, TX (NOW HIRING)

Inspects construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications; acts as consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution; may serve as the only inspector on a construction project or assist in overseeing construction inspection activities for very large and/or complex projects within a district or conduct statewide construction inspection activities for ongoing airport improvement projects. Responsible to a licensed professional engineer who has full authority for approval of all work. Work requires contact with contractors. May perform materials tests and manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

• Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.
• Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.
• Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.
• Conducts project reviews and coordinates inspections with various inspectors and other district/division project managers.
• Ensures adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects; ensures material tests are performed and materials meet required standards.
• Moves equipment, tools, materials, and products.
• Observes and inspects ongoing construction work.
• Assists in engineering-related data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review activities for plan development by others.
• Drives/travels to geographically separated fabrication plants/project sites to monitors program status; perform unannounced inspection of operations, and problem resolution.
• Independently schedules, coordinates and performs in plant structural product inspections and intermediate audits at local an/or geographically separated locations.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Same duties as a level I plus:

• Handles problem calls from producers, suppliers, inspectors and construction project field personnel.
• Coordinates inspection schedules, traffic control needs, and access issues directly with district personnel.
• Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.

• Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.

• Informs plant personnel of material or production problems, rejects substandard material and assists in determining cause for material problems.
• Performs engineering-related planning, design, data collection, inspections, assessments, analysis, and review activities for plan development by others.
• Reviews construction records, inspection reports and records audits to ensure contractors build roadways, bridges and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications.
• Mentors and develops technical employees in test and inspection procedures and material specifications.
• Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.
• Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management.
• Attends pre-construction meetings and answers questions from contractors and other attendees.
• Conducts project reviews and coordinates inspections with various inspectors and other district/division project managers.
• Ensures adequate levels of equipment and materials are assigned to projects; ensures material tests are performed and materials meet required standards.

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Construction Inspector I:

No experience required. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Construction Inspector II:

1 year construction, construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection; or transportation engineering support related experience. Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent. 

Construction Inspector III:

2 years construction, construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection; or transportation engineering support related experience. Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent. 

Construction Inspector IV:

3 years construction, construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection; or transportation engineering support related experience. Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent. 

Construction Inspector V:

4 years construction, construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection; or transportation engineering support related experience. Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent.
