Job description

GAI Consultants, a national multi-disciplinary engineering firm is seeking qualified Transportation Construction Inspectors for work on transportation infrastructure projects throughout Western Pennsylvania for PennDOT, PA Turnpike, and local municipalities. In this position, you will be responsible for the inspection, monitoring and documentation of all aspects of construction activities including but not limited to the essential functions outlined below. Essential Functions

  • Monitor, inspect and document daily on-site construction activities.
  • Ensure compliance with the contract documents and applicable state and local codes by the contractor.
  • Responsible for consulting with contractors, consultants, engineers, job superintendents, and others in matters related to plans, specifications, materials, equipment, and the methods, practices and safety precautions involved in construction and installation of the work.
  • Prepares and maintains daily inspection progress reports, photographs, discrepancies, and corrective actions.
  • Checks shop drawings and contractors' quotations for variation.
  • Maintains records of quantities and cost of materials used.
  • Monitors and documents erosion and stormwater BMP’s and controls for proper functions.
  • Prepares contractors' periodic progress payment claims and recommended payment.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Attend site meetings.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Ensure compliance with contractor and GAI health and safety plan.
  • Environmental site conditions. Hot weather/cold weather environments.
  • Adherence to project safety requirements, wearing all required personal protective equipment.
  • Must be able to navigate active construction sites including traversing uneven, frozen, and muddy ground around possible live traffic conditions.
  • Travel to and from project sites as required.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED.
  • Some secondary education, Associate degree, or Bachelor of Science degree, preferably in civil engineering or construction management. Other BS degrees considered.
  • Basic mathematical calculations for computing length, area, and volumes.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Effective time management.
  • Ability to utilize technology for documentation. IPAD’s and app navigation.
  • Working in a collaborative and team environment.
  • Strong desire to build a career in the Transportation Industry by obtaining valuable industry certifications.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACI Concrete Field Technician Grade 1
  • PennDOT Concrete Certification
  • PennDOT Guiderail Installation, Inspection, and Maintenance Certification
  • NECEPT Concrete Field Testing Technician
  • NECEPT Asphalt Field Technician
  • NICET Levels I, II, III, or IV in Highway Construction
  • Minimum of two (2) years transportation construction experience or six (6months) PennDOT experience as a Technical Assistant 2 (TA-2) or higher
  • TCI 1,2, or 3- Classification and pay scale based on experience
