Key Responsibilities

  • Surgical Estimating and Bidding: Analyze detailed project specifications and blueprints to generate precise, highly competitive excavation, grading, and site utility bids.
  • Field and Budget Coordination: Partner closely with field supervisors and union crews to ensure physical execution perfectly aligns with original cost projections and budgetary constraints.
  • Schedule Architecture: Develop and maintain comprehensive master project schedules to guarantee strict, on time delivery for government and industrial clients.
  • Margin Optimization: Continuously evaluate material, equipment, and labor costs to maximize project profitability and resource efficiency.
  • Stakeholder Management: Direct all site level communications, serving as the primary liaison between executive leadership, subcontractors, clients, and municipal inspectors.
  • Document Control: Manage the submittal, RFI, and change order processes to protect project margins and maintain absolute financial accuracy.


What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications)

Required

  • Industry Tenure: Minimum of 5 years of dual experience in civil construction estimation and project management.
  • Core Competencies: A proven track record of bidding and managing earthwork, excavation, and underground site utility projects.
  • Technical Literacy: Advanced proficiency in reading civil engineering drawings, site layouts, and interpreting complex structural or geotechnical specifications.
  • Labor Dynamics: Strong experience working within a union environment and a practical understanding of collective bargaining labor requirements.


Preferred

  • Advanced expertise in specialized utility bidding software such as HCSS HeavyBid, InSite, or PlanSwift and project management platforms.
  • Demonstrated success in winning and managing large scale federal, state, or municipal infrastructure contracts.
  • Extensive knowledge of regional civil construction regulations, municipal codes, and local geological conditions in Michigan.
  • Associate degree or higher in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
